I wanted my Cutie friends to see this pillow, not so much for the design on it, but for the way it was put together. It actually is like putting two complete panels together, creating this double edge, kind of like a double ruffle. I wish I knew how to describe it better. I am no good at all with piping, so I will do almost anything to avoid piping the edge of a pillow - LOL! So.. I quilted the design part to the cat fabric on the front, and quilted the back cat fabric to more cat fabric, then stitched them together the size needed to encase the pillow form. There is a zipper on the back at the base. It felt cuddly, just like a quilt. The design is of a long haired siamese, or a Balinese from Dakata Collectables purchased from Embroidery Supply. My friend, who is also a cat lover, had just lost her beloved kitty, so this was in his memory. She LOVED this surprise! I had lots of fun making it for her because I knew she'd be surprised AND I avoided doing that darn piping. The photo is not so great of the pillow, but shows the double edge. I hope you can figure it out with my description with the picture!

My friend's one remaining kitty stares at this pillow! Maybe he is remembering his brother, or maybe he is thinking - Now what in the world is that? I want to make one of him too, but before he dies. He's a Morris kitty, a yellow Tom tabby.

Great project. I hate piping too. Sweet of you to surprise your friend with something to remind her of her furbaby :)

What a lovely thing you did for your friend. You are a good person. Nice work on the cushion, as well. I don't use piping, either!

Actually, it wasn't my idea. I saw it on a website once, didn't bookmark it and then I couldn't find it after searching for hours, when it came time to sew it! The one I saw was done with pastels and was just lovely and light and airy - kind of wispy. Thanks, Ramona

Well, at least your memory is better than mine and you turned out a really cute pillow. Thanks for sharing.
