Here is a link on directions to make two color ones made from a good grade flannel. I just cut mine in a 18"long X 22" wide piece and added the design in the center of one of the ends, folded it right sides together, sewed up the back, refolder to center design and sewed bottom end sewed most of other end leaving just a bit to turn, turn press and top stich all around. every one loved them. Hope you understand this and it helps
That is how I do mine! I love emb. on flannel also, such a nice fabric to work with.
I found that diapers for burp cloths were not that helpful. I took 2 hand towels and stitched them together so that there was as double thickness and that worked perfectly. There is more absorbency in toweling (fluffy bath towel type)...less of a chance for you to be burped upon.
Gigi, I made some cute burpers for my grandson out of some nice diapers. They were adorable frogs and turtles But, my DIL didn't like the diapers. I think this generation might prefer they be made out of diaper flannel or even soft fleece. . But, he really wasn't a spit up baby. They didn't burp him much either. It may just be my DIL, but I'll be making cute burpers out of fleece or diaper flannel from now on. Maybe these new millenium babies don't spit up like they used to - LOL!
The prefolded ones I used that were the thickest and felt the best I purchased from Babies R Us. I have used the white and the colored ones from Joann's or Walmart. The BRUs ones are much thicker. The first picture is of the thicker diapers and the second is of the thinner ones.
Maybe I was wrong on Wal-Mart. I thought I got colored ones and white ones there. Maybe it was Joann's. Man, that makes twice I've been wrong this year. :-) But anyway, I did want to say that I backed the thicker ones with flannel. You can open them up so they are still the original width. The Elmo one has flannel added at the bottom and they are folded and stitched back. So the size you see that one is the size it is.
