I would say yes it is. Most of the designs we do on the computerized machines are put into a project, which is the handicraft, and whether it is done as a design on a piece of clothing, or a blanket, or a bag - is that not considered handicraft? Hope that explains it to you a little. Or at least how I feel about machine embroidery handicrafts.

Thank you. I asked because here in Goa, India. We were invited by the Government and given free stalls to exhibit our products for handicrafts. And some people started saying the machine work is not handicraft as it is not done by hand. I got your point, putting the image or pattern in the computer is done by hand and its has to be handicraft. Traditional designs put in the software can be put as handicraft embroidery.

I don't know about handicrafted as that sounds like hand - crafted, and I think of that as done by hand. You might call it home crafted?

dlonnahawkins,

On second thought I think you are right! I was just thinking of the embroidery. Of course the item you put it on can be called handicrafted -- unless of course it is a purchased T-shirt, etc.
