Just like a couple of them said - practice. I've had my phone for a few years and I think there's still some things I don't know it can do, but if the GK get ahold of it they've got it figured out in no time! Learn from them - they love to show their grandparents how smart they are!
I had to laugh about the knee photo! Love it! My friend took several pics of the inside of his pants pocket! He finally figured out how he'd done it. The funniest thing I remember happening wasn't with the phone, but the garage door opener when Mom & Dad first got one. Started out of the garage & the door kept going Up & Down...Mom was sitting on the remote & wiggling around to see why the door was doing that! But you'll figure it out! You can sew, you can conquer that phone!!
The whole secret to beating the techno gadgetry is do NOT let it intimidate you.
Anyone who can take a new baby home and manage to raise it to adulthood, (without drowning it, choking it, suffocating it, poisoning it, losing it or doing any of the myriad of other disastrous things you COULD do), should not let anything so trivial as a piece of metal/plastic with wires inside, intimidate them.
My Grandma always said you can do anything you put your mind to, especially if you want it badly enough.
And do you know I believed her!
So when ever I come up against something new or daunting, I remember her words and just Go for it!
There is always a manual and if you sit with the item and the manual and go through it page by page, NOTHING is beyond you.
There's no such thing as CAN'T.

Oh, Meganne, I love it! I'd never though about raising the kids & not killing them! You are so right! My mom always told me same thing you're grandma did! But I do know how to turn my phone on & off as it's a SIMPLE phone...does nothing but call & take calls! Well, at least that's all I do as that's all I want!
My husband bought us Smart phones in January. It is way smarter than I am. I am still struggling to find out how to find phone messages.
I have a problem turning mine on - must be months since I used it!
Sarah is right it is a practice thing, just have a good play around with it, you will figure it out. switch it on and off a couple of times a day until you get it into your brain.
Don't feel bad - my DH is exactly the same. As with everything it is just practice. For most of us it is a huge learning curve. Sarah.
MY DH is pretty much the same too. If his computer or phone or ipod isn't working it 'AAALIIICE !!!! what wrong with my computer?" I'm like, well your the one sitting in front of it how should I know? but I go fix it for him any way.
I'm fine on the computer, no problems with digitising, can switch off my phone, set the alarm, but am struggling with a simple sms - I hate having to push a button 4 times to get an s, usually end up with 2 q's or so as I pause just a fraction too long. Can manage my name, though I might have to redo the r. Can you imagine what my texts look like? :(
Martine
I am like you mops, no problem with computers or any gadget at all. But I did not even send sms until i got an iphone. they have a qwert keyboard, so no more nonsense with hitting the same key four times to get on letter. Now I sms all the time.
