thanks to everyone with their answers here.....I was looking for the answer to this question as well....
I was going to suggest you talk with Shirlene but see she has already answered you. I knew she had done some beautiful leather embroidery/Lillian

Sweetie , I have never embroidered on leather , but can't wait to see what you do. Kay
Hi Devon, It depends on the leather. I used a leather needle and did not hoop the leather, placed it onto sabilised with spray, also put a wws layer loose on the top , had no problem doing initials on bags and lipstick leather holders.

I embroidered a logo last month on the back of a leather coat for a customer. It was a supple leather and I did use a metallic needle, and ran my machine on a slower speed and used metallic thread and it turned out beautiful.......Vicki
I was told that you really can't embroider on leather, since the design (if dense) will actually cut the leather and you'll wind up with a patch plus a hole in your leather. I see from the pix below that apparently that's not true but I'm still a little doubtful. now if it's man made leather it supposedly won't cut thru.
DeVon, it is always the best to use a leather needle - but not always necessary - I have done it both ways and feel that the one I did without was of good quality, as well.
Shirlene - the frames look amazing but I am afraid I would be terrified to embroider on leather.
