I'm happy you liked it. I sure as heck didn't. No way I'd do them their way. What I wound up doing was as you said, make about 12 layers of net into an applique, then cutting around with my pinking sheers. LOOKS great and works well. Their designs are really not great any more.
When we made them, we did not cut the material it was sewed on. I think they turned out real nice. Just do it like an applique.
I downloaded the apple - but I am not understanding the whole process - why do you cut away the under laying fabric or what are you stitching these to? I don't get the name dish scrubbies? They just look like an appluque to me.
These are to be put on a dishcloth so if you have a stubborn spot when you are washing dishes you can use the "scrubby" part instead of reaching for a separate thing to clean with. If you read the tutorial it is much easier to understand the concept.
I have made 5 so far. I leave the Stabilizer on till I'm done. then remove it.
We are not referring to the stabilizer, but the fabric that you are putting the netting on. The tutorial tells you to cut that away so when you are done there is nothing behind the netting.
i got these patterns as i have a membership there but i don't understand it ??can someone explain it??I mean what kind of fabric would you use??How?? thanks carolyn
Go to their newsletter from the Sunday before last. There is a link to a tutorial that expains all you need to know to get started. They are easy and fun to do. For anyone that missed the butterfly freebie there is an apple still available on their site. Or if you have a fairly simple applique design, like a fruit, veggie or a leaf you could make your own by following the dirctions given.
ok thanks i will go see if i can find it .I am not good on that site but i will try:):) carolyn
ok i went and read it thanks again .I am finishing a project then i will go try it it looks so cool :):) carolyn
After I posted this message I stitched out another dish scrubby and on this one I did not cut away the underlying fabric. I like the way it looks much better this way and it was a lot easier to make. Now the real test is to see if it washes clean after using.
dino, have you wahed yours?
I'll being waiting to see if you get yours washed before I get mine done. I don't have any dirty dishes at the moment.
I did a practice one on a barmop also (of the wine). It turned out great - I did not cut the bottom out and like that it has the extra stability!
Thanks for letting us know how your results were. The only other thing to consider is when you wash the scrubber would debris wash out with the back left on.
I agree. I did them both ways and leaving the underlying fabric is so much easier and it gives the scrubby part more stability when I'm scrubbing. These really are easy and fun to do. Now making some for a craft fair coming up this summer.
Got the freebie but haven't tried them yet - guess I will have to try these!
I have not tried it yet, silly me I forgot to download the design!! I was impressed with the idea. Why not try it as an applique and let us know how it works out.
