there are these animal bag too
Here is the link to the blank bag and you could put any design you like on the front of it for the little girl. Just sew the front of the bag first and then stop and sew your design and then sew the back of the bag. You can sew the bag together on your reg. sewing machine if you like and find it easier that way. If you need any help, just let me know. :)

I really thought I was loosing my mind! Can't tell you how many of these I've made, regular size and small for kids.
How about the Bunny Bag, have a look at http://designsbycuties.cuteembroi...
I was thinking of trying that but it looks more easter than birthday. I may try it anyway just to see if I'm following the directions right. Some days I swear I can screw up redwork!lol

Meri, There are quite a few bags in "Designs by Cuties" done by Lee that you could use. Hugs Yvonne
Lee has so many cool things but I'm afraid I'll screw it up. The only way for me to do this is jump in headfirst. I'll either try the bunny bag or backtrack and find something more Birthdayish. Lee makes it look so easy and has so many designs to choose from. I've messed stuff up before so what they heck. I'll look for one of her little bags.

this is what you need
Embroidery Library has a beautiful pattern for a purse that you make from old jeans. there's a template and everything. I took the template and cut it down in size and made it into a kids purse. Any design that you have and is girlie will work on the outside. You can put as many pockets as you want and use any fabric that you want. I've made dozens of them. EASY to do.
Well, shoot. I went to find a link and it's not there any longer. I'll keep looking.
I found little movies on You Tube. Here is a link. I hope this helps you
