I wanted to tell you something else about the cloth bags. Ben can't tear them open! I know that sounds cruel but... I do my best work at night. I had stayed up till 3:30. Wrapping about 30 gifts really pretty in paper and ribbons - even all the tags all just beautiful because it's the TRADITION. I had them all set to mail, in three boxes for the three different states, but not taped up because I still needed to print the pretty address tags, which I would do later. I HAD to get them mailed by 11:00 that morning by Priority or my far away family would not get these lovely gifts in time for Christmas and my life would be ruined and I would be a horrible grandmother. You know! Well, you remember how I've told you Ben doesn't sleep? And he gets up in the middle of the night and gets into things???? I didn't shut the door to that room and lock it. grrrrrrrr. When I got up he had opened EVERY SINGLE gift. NOT even ONE was left in tact. I just sobbed. And he was really sorry. So I taped some back together, and re-wrapped and mailed them the next day. And they got there in time. My husband was very sympathetic. Ben pretty much hid in his room that day. That's when I started making bags. And tying them up with sturdy ribbons. Those knots are double knots.
My Grands love these and carry all kinds of things in them. =0)
I think it is an ideal way to save money, & they say they use the bags for numerous other things which makes you feel good./Lillian
Jan, I love these! Shirlene was referring to my post I think: http://projects.cuteembroidery.co...
I hav been making gift bags for many years now and it has saved us so much money!! I give them away also! Nice job! Laura*
Those are great and look a whole lot like my stack of Christmas bags. We recycle ours too! I just stick the tags right on them! I actually iron mine and put them away for next year. I feel like a squirrel! I check out the fabric after Christmas, even the flannels, and make some in my "spare" time. I mail away so I always need a new supply! Thanks for showing me yours! Isn't it fun!
It is fun...and it is a win win situation. They are pretty, reusable and makes gifts easy to wrap. I go over each of mine too and pull out the ones that might need ironing or mending. My kids actually love them. Only wish I had made these about 27 years ago instead of 7 years ago!! I strongly urge others to make them too - they will not regret it!
Before long the bags take on a personality of their own, and people remember what was in the "Last year!" Oh the traditions!
Have you given the bags themselves as gifts? I filled a bag with bags and gave that as a gift at a gift exchange - and it was quite the hit! I had embroidered on just about 3 out of the 8 bags so it didn't take too long. It was one of those exchanges that gets all passed around, and it got passed a lot.
Thanks for the nice pisc !!Your right people love a homemade gift bag !!carolyn
What a great idea and so versatile too. Thanks for sharing it :)
They are reusable, too. My mom uses the one with the little cardinal on it in the middle to put her little sewing projects in she keeps beside her chair when she watches The Wheel.
Jan, these are adorable - we have another CUTE family member that share that they did this too - over a year ago - I love this idea and have fabric to start - but as of yet - haven't.
