This little device has been considered one of the most perfect inventions ever designed for use in combat. I digitized this to put it in a group of Army things for an apron for my WWII vet Dad. It had lots of colors of silver so to make it realistic I used as many silvers and brassish grays as I had. I forgot to take photos of it stitched on the apron so this is of the design. It stitched out great. You must stitch it in the order given to keep the layering right. Your soldier or vet will enjoy this one!

My husband was drafted for the Koren War. He said that they feed them these kind of rations out in the field when they were training them. Paulette in Michigan

I didn't realize you put this up by itself. Great. Has to be one of the greatest simple inventions. With my arthritis, the hand crank openers are a struggle, but I use the P38 from my DH's time in the army, and I can eat canned food! yeah.

That's amazing you can use this little guy, when the the bigger ones don't! I'm glad you like the design and hope you can use it!

How cute!I've carried the mini one on my key chain for over 35 years.Works every time. Now I also have the larger one so I keep it handy also in my purse clip.
It's always been taken for granted but has been a life saver for me. Stella

For those who are interested in WWII here is the website my dad and I have developed for his Army Division the 96th, called the Deadeyes. He gives me the information and then I put it into the technical web design stuff. WE have to make sure everything is accurate and keep it current. It has been lots of fun with the communicating, especially when you consider Dad is 84 and calls the computer "those guys." The Glossary explains some of the military jargon, which was fun for me to learn. The EXtras is where you can learn about the P38 history and also about the Jeep and Kilroy and just some fun WWII Era I put up. I hope you can check it out when you get a chance. I'll post it in personals also so it doesn't get lost. Thanks for your interest! Jan - the Baby Boomer

Also referred to as a "John Wayne". No idea why! Thank you so much! Hubby wouldn't part with his opener!

Thank you so much. I still have my P-38 on my key chain from when I went thru basic training (1979). I've carried it with me thru all the years and have used it often. I can't tell you the number of cans I've opened with it or oranges I've used it to peel. It's opened boxes shipped to me too.

Great design- the P38 one of the handiest gadgets to have-they never fail and quite frankly-work better than some of the can openers that you buy in stores. I had one for years but don't know whatever happened to it.

They used to come in the C Ration kit! I think you can pick them up at Surplus stores and probably on eBay. The little P38 actually sparked a whole chain of "new and improved" versions. I kind of researched them for the website my dad and I have called Remember the Deadeyes. I'll post the URLl I'm glad you like my little design. It may be the only P38 embroidery design - LOL People remember it fondly.

Thank you so much. My twin daughter would love this on a towel. She loves C-Rations. Her husband is in Korea. She doesn't like spicy foods so this is her diet most of the time when he is out in the field.

I have some of these! We used them on campouts - and our boys used them with Boy Scout campouts. Thanks a bunch.
