Here is an excerpt from the article with a published date of April 14th, 2011 found in paragraph three: "So beginning in May, Wal-Mart will began displaying signs in their stores announcing the return of removed items such as, bolts of fabric, fishing tackle, and other “heritage” items that Wal-Mart removed in its attempted to spruce up its stores to appeal." This was copied and pasted from this link:

I was in Wal-mart the other day and notice they had more material than usual...They had cut their department down when they remodeled..now its stacked sky high on two additional counters...I am very pleased with their prices on stabilizers and pellon...We have sooooo many small fabric stores around here and a couple of huge fabric stores within 30 miles....I was in our local pharmacy store where they have a small department for sewing...They had some really beautiful and very high end fabric really low cost..We did have a walmart (about an hour and 1/2 from me) that had a very extensive fabric department...it was fun to go to...when they started taking away fabrics from walmart, I just never stopped there when I passes by it...should try it again sometime now that this news is posted...THANKS

Our Walmart remodeled and they were suppose to keep a very limited amount of fabric. We have more fabric now then they did before the remodel. Plus it's almost all cotton fabric instead of everything else. It is a little more expensive but the quality seems to have improved too

Of all 4 of our Super Walmarts here, only 1 kept material, but they said it was to be removed in June 2011, I am glad to hear that all may be coming back! Thanx for posting this. Hugs, Judy

We still have a full fabric dept. here in our walmart store. They threatened to close it and got 30,000 emails in Arkansas within 2 days just from people in my area. The fabric quality has gotten really nice lately. As a matter of fact, a lot of the fabrics they are carrying are the same ones being carried by Hancock only slightly cheaper.

I'm glad to hear this as well. Our nearest Walmart is 40 minutes away. Nearest quilt shop is an hour away. Walmart had some fabric that you couldn't find other places. Hope their prices don't go up. I noticed that one of the Walmarts in Fla had fabric precut in 1 yd pieces hanging in their craft department.

when they sent the big guys to our Wal-Mart to redesign our store, i talked to many about the fabric dept. closing and explained it is at least 30 miles to the nearest store to purchase fabric. i live just outside New Orleans and population is growing since Katrina 5 years ago. the management team they sent just shook their heads and said sorry there was nothing they could do. i told them i would never shop in Wal-Mart again. and so far i have kept my word. this is the only way they would get me to come back. thank you for this info. betty

This is wonderful news. In the past I had e-mailed them to please keep their fabric and notions. They must be listening to their customers. Thank you. H&*

We have a Superstore that has managed to keep a fairly good fabric department. I did notice a few weeks ago that more fabric was coming in. This is good...the store is less than 2 miles down the road from the neighborhood...and they used to have the water soluble and light weight tear away stabilizers at a very LOW price.

Good! My Walmart still has fabric, but I have 3 that are close to me that don't.....I am happy to see that they will put it back, if one is out of what I need another may have it... Besides, in my area all we have is JoAnn's!

That is great news. The walmart close to the house still has it. But the one I shop at the most (close to work) does not. So that will be great.

after wal-marts arrival, all the small fabric shops closed. only joanns fabric is still around, nothing close to where i live. after that i only go to walmart 1-2 times a year.i spent too much a walmart anyway.

That is neat to hear! Our Walmart doesn't even sell fat quarters! I was able to find some at a Walmart 20 miles away. I miss being able to run out late late at night for fabric!

I have heard, probably not true that we are getting Wal-Mart here in South Africa. That would be just wonderful if they sell material as well.

Well I'm glad! I thought it was a really big mistake to take it out in the first place! I'm not a WalMart fan, but will go to get things I need ir it's too far to drive elsewhere.

This is good news. We still have one superstore that carries the $5.00 bolts of fabric. I would like to see it in all the Wal-Mart stores though. Hopefully it will include at least a few full fabric departments. I am in Central Florida so finding a close Wal-Mart is not a problem. I have 2 within 5 miles and 5 within 10 miles. Thank you for the info.

Boy I sure hope this is true and they do bring it back! Thanks for posting the article. We have a Joann and a new Hobby Lobby in this area so I wonder if they might not open the fabric dept here because of them?

To be honest with you Wal Mart is fine but I have found their material is second hand and not quality fabric. I shop at Hancocks or Hobby Lobby. In the broadcloth for instance I have bought there and at Hobby Lobby, the quality is much better and I don't get little fuzza balls on it. I know Wal Mart is good but not their material. Roberta

You definitely get what you pay for but for those of us that have to drive 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 hours to get to a regular fabric store it is better than not having anything.

Yipee! I had just bought my Designer 1 and was going to start buying fabric from Walmart. I had just move into my new house at this time to. The nearest fabric store is miles away. I went in to Walmart and all the fabric was gone just like that over night! The Walmart employee then told me that they were not going to carry fabric anymore.
You just made my day!
Thank you for posting this

Said they will be putting up signs about bringing back items in May. Wonder how long it will be before they actually remake the fabric department. The article didn't say.
