I forgot how peaceful home can be with DH and me. Sooo nice. But soooooooooooooooo nice having D & 3 GC nearby. The best stress reliever is my decision to retire. It was such a difficult decision to make, took me 2 years to make it, but all is falling into place, and I am at peace. June 2nd will be my last day of teaching 4th grade. I can't believe it.

Yes it is so nice to have a daughter close but not living with you. My daughter and family is living 5 miles away from me and I get to them at least once a week. Perfect!!!!!!
Warning! Once retired you will be busier than ever. Happened to me and all the retired people I know. Most of all enjoy whatever you do.

twee, glad you are getting to retire and also you and your DH can have your home back again. As much as we love our children and grandchildren we need our time alone as a couple. Wnen our daughter and family come and just stay a week, I am wore out. They aren't any trouble but just having extra people in the house makes a difference.
Enjoy your life with just you and your hubby as long as possible. Time really slips by sooo fast. Hugs, Judy

I am glad for your daughter & you Teri. I am sure it was as stressful for her as it was you. It's good she's near so you can be there when she needs you. As for retiring. It's really not all it's cut out to be, there are many days I wish I could go to work again even at my age of 72. I miss my work, but hubby needs me at home & I've accepted it./Lillian

I understand. I would probably work a bit longer but H retired 2 years ago and is chopping at the bit for me to retire. I have lots of hobbies, so I'll be busy.

Love them but love them more when they are not living with me. hehe I too am retired and love it. The one word you certainly need to remember is "NO". Others seem to think that you have nothing else to do but take care of their errands and needs since you are "retired". Don't get me wrong..I don't always use that word but I do try to make time for myself now. Congratulations on the start of a new journey. It seems time goes by more quickly now :-( but, and not trying to be selfish here, I do love doing what "I do".

I am happy for you! I know it relives alot of stress having your daughter and her family close to you. I am sure you will have enough to do to keep you very busy! You may not even miss teaching. Well... maybe a little!

As I start through 20+ years of teaching curriculum, and junk. I am reflecting back on the memories.

In a few days you will probably start to miss them being around all the time. Being just down the street you can still visit with them often and help out when needed. Congratulations on your retirement! Everyone I've talked to said they pondered the idea for a very long time before they made the commitment.

I am happy for you. I had to decide whether I was to retire, or continue with my job. I decided tht since a lot of the stress had been taken from me when I was allowed to work from home, that I would continue to work, as long as I can do my job. But, congratulations, and it is good that the daughter and her kids are close by.

Twee,
I am so happy for your stress relief! I understand completely how the grown kids can throw wrenches into our
peaceful scenario, when they need to move back home, even for a short period!! So, great to breathe deeply and relax! LOL Then, too, it is nice to have them nearby to visit occasionally.
Congratulations on your retirement, too! I have retired several years ago, and still do not know where all the hours go so quickly! Not enough time to do all I need/want to, but then that is probably because I have "slowed down" too much! LOL I miss the routine of work each day and my co-workers, yet I enjoy doing things I never found time for. It is easy to get into a rut of not staying physically active enough, so stay healthy!
Happy for you! Enjoy each day!!
Angel

Congratulations on your retirement. In the future you will wonder how you ever found the hours to work. Retirement is great but it takes a while to get used to it. I am sure that your 4th graders will miss you. Sarah

Terri, I am so happy for you - I know it has been hard - that last little bit - but with them down the street and in their own home - it will be wonderful for you and your DH.

I am thrilled for you and your decision to retire - I hope that they give you a big send off, too. You will have so much to do - there may be days that you wished you could go back to work - Hehehe! Here is hoping that the journey will be fun and exciting and more time for visits.

Yes, yes. It'll be more time to do what I want, when I want. Let's do get together more often.

I'm so glad for you! Teaching is such a rewarding profession, yet... you can burn out so easily. There is always so much to do.

Enjoy your retirement, and your new found peace! ;)

I'm sure it may happen again, but for now it great. My hubby has a 3 year old shadow that spends the day entertaining him, while I and his motehr are at work.

I hear that comment a lot, but it will be my time table, hopefully, and not someone elses. And, I am going to use the word NO when I need to.
