I'm fairly new, but I haven't used a colorchart yet. I just pick a color that is close to what the machine shows for the colors as they are usually in a brand I don't use. Or I just pick colors I like or want to use - individualizing them.
I'm lucky as at the touch of a button I can see what color comes next and where each one is in the design and touch another button and it shows the colors and the name of each color - so I just look and find a color that's close and hold it up to the machine to match the color unless it's one I want changed.
Good luck.
When I purchase designs I always get PES format because it does, for the most part, retain the colors. I think it is the only format that does. Some colors do not convert quite right even with PES but they are close.

I was glad that the lady that showed me how to dl and open designs mentioned that about pes, so that's what I dl.
I recently started downloading in pes because of this. Never had any problems until I upgraded my Embird program a few weeks ago. Shirley
I also use the Art format and the colors are always wrong. I always look up my design in Embird and get my color chart before I stitch out the design it has the best color match that I have been able to find without looking up every color
Guess I may have to do that. Sewwhatpro seems to be a nice program, I may buy it in the future (can't afford it right now). It would be so nice to be able to bring any design in any format and have it know the correct color at a touch of a button. I imagine it's possible but may take a lot of work, so may not be worth while for someone to create it.
Sew What Pro has many uses you can change the colors in the design to see what it will look like, it converts and resizes as well as much more. I have had my program for over 2 years and do not know what I would do without it, hugs Lisa
I've got several software programs even though they are a few years old and not updated. Bernina Artista, Brother PES & Embird, so I am able to convert and resize edit etc. It would be nice to find a program that would easily fix weird colors that was a good price. I have their SewIconXP software and love it. I bought it when it first came out and it was a very resonable price.
This is one of the most complete sources of converting between different threads without buying a program.
You still have to choose each and every thread and select the proper one, and it seems like one or the other is always lacking several of the correct color choices.
Not to mention you still need the thread color chart to pick the the correct color to begin with. I have many designs with no color chart (or they've gotten lost in my many designs) and unless they in the native format of the embroidery software you use (I use ART) it will show all the colors wrong.
But But But. I use sewwhatpro and just open the design, then simply tell it to change the thread to my janome and it changes it. you can use this program for 30 days free trial too. I use this and my janome digitising program. Helen
I downloaded the demo and can't see where you can have it batch change the color to any specific brand of thread or format. Am I missing something, if it would do that I would buy it nothing flat.
I did find how to change to a specific brand thread, but if the colors are funky to begin with it still selects the same incorrect ones.
Then change to the colours you want, this is why I bought the program as the Janome colours always came out weird, white was silvery grey etc. Click on the colour block and a drop down will chow up and change the colour to what you want. The program will ask if you want to save it and can save both your changed design and the old one. Hugs Lisa
