They are adorable!!!! I just wouldn't be able to eat them later on. My grandparents had a little farm and I still remember when the new chicks would come in the big box and we had to keep them inside under the lights for a few weeks. Later, we hatched a duck and a chick in my classroom. It was the absolute most fun! Have fun!!!
But, there is no chicken as delicious as fresh chicken that has been flopping around without its head just an hour before!

They are so cute! Thanks for sharing the pic. I could never eat something that I had seen alive first. I refuse to ever try goat, rabbit, squirrel, etc. I tried deer once but got sick thinking about it so never again!

Me too. Someone gave me venison and while it was cooking I kept vomiting! Couldn't eat it, and it was all in my head - LOL

Fond memories of growing up, scooping some up from the brooder & holding against my cheeks. Grandmother always hatched out some ducks for us also & the hens would get frantic when my brother, cousin & I would put them in the watering trough to watch them swim. Those were happy days. Thanks for the memory/Lillian

Oh, thanks for sharing this picture of your "biddies"! Growing up as a farmgirl, I love
all farm critters, especially ducks, hens, roosters, turkeky and geese. I live in the country, but gave up trying to raise chickens with so many foxes in the area. Your picture brings back
memories of childhood, when we had to keep the little chicks warm in a lighted incubator for a couple of weeks after hatching!

Oh sweet memories! I always got an Easter chick...but it had to be one of the "brown" ones (Rhode Island Red) as it went to my aunt's farm when it got too big for me to keep in the city! Then when my youngest child was in kindergarten, they hatched eggs in an incubator. We brought 2 home, named them Black Jack & Rusty. One morning I hear him say, "RUSTY!" The brown one had "flown" up to the edge of the large box we had them in..they went back to the teacher that afternoon. But they never forgot they were really "people" not chickens! Followed them around like a dog! Hope you are going to play with these too!

My turkeys follow us around like a dog, which makes it difficult to butcher them when it becomes time to do so.

Now they are just so cute. I would love to have hens (and a milking goat) again but it is just not possible where we are living. I live in hope for our next move :)
PS: just looked at your profile, and you share my birthday (or maybe I share yours.. lol)

We had goats for milking and meat when I was a child. My brother raises goats, we have a car repair business so I don't think the customers would appreciate goats, lol!

Had to dodge a few chickens on the way home. Our local farmer just lets them run all over the place and in the road. Just don't give them names. lol

I can't let mine run free unless I'm in the yard. We live right at the edge of the woods and have coyote and fox we see in the yard in the evenings, so running birds would be supper for these guys. No way I'm going to let that happen! I have temporary runs for them for when I'm out in the yard. I also have permanent runs with flashing and rocks buried along the fence line to keep critters from digging under.

What do you do with your chicks? I would love to have a hen house to get fresh eggs daily. My husband thinks I'm nuts. I don't think I could keep a hundred though. Never would I be able to eat that many eggs!!

Only 13 are for laying eggs, the rest are for butcher, of these 10 are turkeys. I already have 27 that lay eggs, but they are getting old and need to be culled from the brood for soups, lol! Culled one the other day when I finally caught the egg eater! And she wasn't even laying eggs.
