I change when I start having a problem. Don't know where you live but try Discount Embroidery Supply no shipping if you order $20 in the states. But check out there shipping details they do ship outside the states. I feel they have some good prices. They are great to do business with. They sell Schmitz, Organ and others. Have a great day.
For years I was able to get Schmetz for about 45 cents each at a Flea Market, but that vendor quit. I still have a big stash. When this is gone, I'll really cry. Change when I think it needs it.
If you check around the internet you can purchase needles for about 10 cents each in quanity. Then you can change more often and not worry about when. I use to pay about $1.00 each in local stores. Big difference. Good luck.
I usually wait til it begins to cause a problem and change it then.
Good question Devon - I change mine when I think it needs changing - probably not often enough!!!
oh gosh lots of good cuties here then :-)
I use organ tititanum needles, and as I use 6 needles I change them when I can see or feel they are looking a little blunt or if I am running on a new satin project :-)
I to then save these needles for my sewing machine
Big hugs from London

i change my needle when the thread has broken 2 times on the same design. Or when I begin a design with many stitches, also when I embroider on a fabric or a cloth precious.
Hi DeVon,
I personally change it after a couple of projects. It depends on the size of the project thougu.
For example I've just done a design with nearly 40,000 stitches in it and so I'll change it today, as this needle had done a few last week. I normally just use my common sense, if I feel the needle is not working to its full potential, or stitches don't look right, then I change it.
Love and blessings Chris
P.S. I only use SCHMETZ needles too!
I don't change mine as I should. I change it when I know it's starting to have a difficult time.
The maker of your machine should tell you how many hours to use a needle in your instruction booklet that came with the machine. I sew with mine for about 15 hours. If you start to hear it clunk instead of the needle going through the material quietly it is a sure sign to change the needle. If you do a lot of dense designs or a lot of FSL change it sooner. hope this helps. Suzanne
I like to change my needles after so many stitches or if the design's density is very high #
I change mine when it breaks lol, should do more often, but think of costs!
Thanks for this question. I rarely change mine. By the way, what type and size needle is the best to use?
I don't change mine often enough, just when I think about it. I'll post a note over my machine that says Change needles. Thanks for the reminder.
Bev
