eeek, luckily you caught it and cleaned it, yay for you :)
One of my email accounts was hijacked last year, and if your account sends spam you're automatically banned from some groups, that sucked. However I got my account back, and now keep no one's details in my addy book so no point of them doing it again lol (I hope not, anyway). xXx
I belong to a private group of embroiders. We mostly have a lot of laughs. But do help each other out if needed. Well, a hacker got into the mail account of one and did some pishing. That is a mess to figure out. They send out letters FROM your account, so it comes from you! Then delete them from the sent folder so you don't know anything about it. The only way to stop them from sending from your account is to change your password so they can't get back in.
And they do something so that if you hit reply, it goes to their account not the person's who sent it. So you have to send that person a letter from your address book to let them know what's going on.
If they hack into my live.com or any other mail accounts they don't have any addresses except from the letters in the IN box and the trash. So I clean these up all day long. MY addresses are on an Incredimail account that's only on this computer. They would have to get into this computer to get to my addresses. And Incredimail will pull mail out of most any place, yahoo, gmail, live.com, etc. And I have selected the option not to leave a copy of the letter on that account. So auto cleaning. I think there are several such programs out there that do the same. I'm not just pushing this one. It just happens that I have used it for about 15 years with excellent results.
Horrible that people don't have anything better to do than messing up other people's computers.
There have been a lot of no subject mails in mine lately. I think it's the latest ploy by the hackers to get to people. Just delete, and then perhaps write to the person you thought sent to let them know they might have been hacked.
Viruses are NO friends of mine! It happened to me before. I have Adware also *2U
So sorry you had a virus but very glad you were able to get rid of it. I did a bit of cleaning up on my computer yesterday. Thanks for reminding everyone...you can't be too careful.
