You should find quite good advice in all these answers ;-). Just one more: think well about the maximum price you want to spent - otherwise you might go to far in the heat of the action/auction (oh, just one or two dollars more... and you finish by paying more than in a regular shop...
I had marvellous experiences on ebay France (domestic), Germany & Great Britain and some days ago I went onto the american site and got my PE-Design 7 (original, not a cracked copy as proposed by an italian seller... - yes, there are "bad" people on ebay, too)for a very good price - very good communication with the seller who sent the item at really fair postage cost to France - and everything works fine - I already spent hours on digitizing!
Give it a try - it's fun and you can have great bargains!

I've bought hundreds of things from ebay. Lately I've gotten a deal on all my machine embroidery designs. $5 compared to $80 for the machine brand designs. I've only had one problem in the past 10 years and ebay removed the seller from their approved list and she vanished! (maybe I'm a witch, hmmm) anyway great advice, check the feedback and listing. I usually bid with my max price whenever I see something I want and if I don't get it, i'll try again later. Seems like everything comes back around eventually. A friend of mine bought her Harley Davidson on ebay and didn't have a problem. I don't go that large a purchase but still, enjoy and be careful, I think there might be an ebay anonyomous, I think I need it, I certainly am addicted. Besides that's how I found 'designs by sick' love those guys. Have fun, have a flower

I'm a HUGE Ebay person... buy and sell a lot online. But I agree with some of the other ladies... READ BETWEEN THE LINES. And make sure you read the seller's feedback report. I too also pay with Paypal and a credit card. Good luck! xoxo

And one more thing... make sure you check the shipping cost! They'll get you sometimes with a HUGE fee.

a little more advice I usually check/compare store prices & know just how much I'm willing to pay for that particular item. Sometimes you may find a better price from a retailer & always consider warranties & with a sew/embr. machine if there is someone near for repairs if you should need them.

I've been buying from ebay for more than 10 yrs never had a problem. I usually buy from regs. but always look for a rating on the seller. I have also sold on ebay with no problems

I also buy alot from Ebay, my most recent purchase was my Husqvarna Designer 1. I bid on several before winning this one. It is a great machine.
I have only had 2 problems, it was my fault for not reading between the lines and asking questions of the sellers.
I also use Paypal and a credit card, that way, if something is not right you can go back to Ebay and your credit card company about the problem. Make sure you have good communications with the seller (e-mails) and keep all of them for reference.
Gee, hope I didn't scare you away, because I have bought a LOT of great items on Ebay. Good luck and have fun!

Ebay QUEEN here, well that's what my family call me anyway. I love ebay. Had only one bad experience, the seller was very unreasonable. So heed all the good advice give here, it will make you a wiser buyer. Another tip, I usually wait till the last day to bid on an item, this way you are not jacking the bid price up by bidding each day against others. Think a few do it that way also. Enjoy your experience.

I'm another big fan of Ebay. My advice is to not bid on the first thing that you like and to check if the thing you want is available from various sellers.... it can be a bit time consuming but worth it to check feedback of sellers and compare them. shipping costs make a difference too sometimes. its obviously cheaper to buy from sellers from your own country and more easy to deal with if a problem arises. I had almost no problems so far at Ebay. the only one I can remember was when I typed a wrong bank account number to transfer my payment so it was all my fault, the money couldn't be transfered and bank let me know quite quickly and seller was understanding. I've bought many books there, my fabric stash would be very small without ebay and I wouldn't have the beautiful antique dinnerset that I lovingly collected piece by piece from Ebay. having said this I did once get a broken plate due to unsuitable packaging but seller was cooperative and gave me a refund. I would really suggest you give it a try - maybe you try something small first such as some thread or fat quarters or a book. good luck and here's a bunch of flower for you

Hi dlmds, I have had great deals buying and selling items on Ebay. Like the others said, do check the legnth of time of the seller and the feedback. I also recommend you read the sellers entire page before bidding...sellers usaully specify thier terms...like no returns...combined shipping or not.
As mentioned before...the sellers are happy to answer questions. I actually won an auction on my Brother SE 270D after trying several times at a great price on Ebay. Good Luck and a flower 4 u!

You have to be very careful of who you buy from. Be sure to read their feedback. Some people will post negatives because THEY are the problem not the seller but if there is more than 10% negative I would be wary. Feel free to ask the seller any questions you have BEFORE bidding, a good seller will never mind explaining things to you. Even though Paypal and eBay have a customer satisfaction policy it is difficult to get problems resolved if they are in a country other than yours. I had major issues with 2 sellers in Canada selling illegal copies of media to me here in the US even tho they swore them to be genuine. By the time I resolved it, calls to customs and eBay etc... I had wasted a lot of time and money but at least we got the sellers banned. Be sure what you buy is exactly what you want. I would stick to 'domestic' (according to YOUR country of origin) sellers. There are many great people and many, many bargains to be had but there are scammers, frauds, liars and cheats too... You must know what the 'normal' price is of what you are buying too because you are not always, tho you will most of the time, get a deal on things once you pay shipping and handling charges. I would prefer to find things at local shops if I can, money kept 'at home' helps our local economy, but since I live in a rural area that is not always possible. I always use PayPal, part of eBay services now, (check to see what payment types they accept first) so that you do not send your banking info to the seller... It does not cost you anything and only cost the seller just a small percentage...we never minded! I always get shipping insurance on what I buy too.. that way if it never gets sent(and the seller swears it did) or it gets lost or damaged in shipping I can track it and can get it's cost returned to me fairly easily. We have been doing business on eBay since the start and had many great experiences but have been cheated several times as well.. Just Be Careful! and of course... Good Luck Bidding!

I have been an ardent Ebay supporter for years. If you follow a few simple rules you should be very happy as well. When buying always check seller's feedback and carefully read the whole ad and then read it again. Most mistakes will be prevented if you follow those two simple rules. Good luck and be brave :-)

i love ebay have only ever had 2 problems 1) was overseas part that was all sorted out something to do with their shipping det and 2) ordered some tongue rings for someone else but they were not packaged properly they were sent in a normal envelope wrapped in a4 paper and 2 peices of noodle foam. needless to say they bent and some balls cracked and broke peices off. the seller blamed aussie post i said it wasnt packaged properly and it was never resolved so negative feedback was left. lucky the items were not expensive and not worth following up. that is the only problem i have had and i have bought alot of items both overseas and here in aus. so join up buy and have fun you will save $$$$$$s :)* 4 u

ok...I LOVE ebay and spend way too much! But, sometimes, it's the only place you can find what you are looking for! I've never had any big problems...check out the auction good and I generally pay with a credit card...just in case there might be some kind of a glitch so you might have the chance of doing a charge-back if necessary! Happy Bidding!

I've bought from both e-bay stores and auction and have not had any trouble. As mentioned, check out the seller and use PayPal or a credit card so you can cancel the sale if necessary. Follow the warnings posted by e-bay, too.

I have had no problems buying from e-bay. I do not use a credit car, but rather use "Paypal" which I am also happy with....except like about a 5 day delay to transfer funds :p Also watch how many "Stars" that the seller has and what their feedback % is like and how long they have been selling online sometimes helps too. cheerio and *4U
