Please explain what a packing peanut is... I don't remember having heard of this term before. Are they available in Australia too? I too, usually have a problem with metallic threads breaking

welcome! We are happy to see you and hope that the packing peanut dilemma has been resolved! hahaha. That is just the method that I use and my threads (Sulky Metallic) don't break. I don't even slow down my machine. I'm sure that there are other ways that are just as good. ;0

I have not seen these for years. I thought maybe they quit making them due to environment?!?! lbrow, I do the same as you with my new rayon thread as it does not like to be spun out from either holder (horizontal nor vertical) from my sewing machine... Actually my stand for now is the spool holders from my serger. *'s to all.

packing peanuts are little pieces of styrofoam used to fill in spaces & cushion whatever you are packing in a box to be moved or shipped or mailed. It prevents breakage.

Re metallic/ I do it the hardway but have very little problems.Try putting thread in a box on the floor(spool lying down) I have a thread stand that sits on the table by sewing machine, feed thread up through that & then in machine. This came from another sew forum somewhere in time. It works along with special needle & slow mode.

to my knowledge a paking peanut is like modo said a piece of styrofoam that looks like a peanut and used to protect breakable stuff in transportation. I have no idea how one could use those with embroidery thread though.... aren't they too small? when using metalling threads one has to use metallic thread needles and make sure the machine is set on SLOW setting...... the faster it goes the more easily the thread breaks. flowers for all

I don't know what a 'packing peanut' is, sorry. But regarding your metallic threads breaking, I use the metallic thread needles and it really helps. Try it.
