There are no close neighbours to me. I would love to have a new home, but the neighbours are so close at my friends place, It would worry me that my machine would disturb them. I put my TV up louder than the machine so I can hear it

We have neighbours on either side but we don't hear anything from them. No one in this house would hear my machine unless they are walking through the room...I often hear the birds in the back yard when they are feeding.

No one close here. When I use my machine my DH says that he does not even here it in the living room. I guess that is good. I wish my neighbor was like ramona 25 to 20 acres away!!!!

It is interesting how some of us live on land and others share appartment buildings.

You should start posting all those other questions you think about.

You aren't alone!!! We are all just a click away!!! I will take you for a neighbor anytime. You sound like lots of fun.

My neighbors are a few feet on either side. My daughter plays piano, guitar and loud music at all times of the night on non-school days. They are more concerned about the smoke coming from the fireplace and whether we are home when it does.

I live in an apt. building with 93 apartments. Noise ha ha. I'm glad I'm in an end apt and the top floor. I think my machine would bother the one on the other side.

I live on six acres and we are about center of the land, so the closest neighbor is at the back side of the land. He can here my chickens every once in a while, but he loves it. I was worried when I first was considering raising them and spoke with him first about it. Last year we had guinea hens, again I spoke with him first, they drove us nutty, but he said he couldn't hear them. So we don't worry about noise to much around here. I lived in apartments for a few years, you hear everything, even things you would rather not, lol! I love being back out in the country!! My heart goes out to those who have close neighbors, it makes it hard to have peace, quite, and privacy.

I am so envious of those of you who live in glorious isolation! That is my idea of heaven. We live in a village and only have close neighbours on one side but it is never really quiet and peaceful.

At Possum Lodge I can talk to one lot of neighbours across our balconies, the other side only has a split level house but we still can still talk to each other quite easily.

I can hear them talking if they are outside, but cannot hear any noises coming from inside their homes, so I guess they don't hear us either.

Down at Penrith we only have single story homes and one side I can hear if they flush their loo, the other side I only hear their outside noises.

I hear all the neighbours music, dogs barking and even the freeway noise from inside Ray's house. The freeway is probably 10km away.

I have exceptional hearing though and Ray always says I can hear two flies walking up a wall.

Noise drives me insane, especially if I can't identify what it is and where it is coming from.

At Possum Lodge I open the doors and hear the chatter and twitter of the birds all day, it is heaven.

Last night, about 4AM, I took the dog downstairs for her twinkle, and I'm standing on the back verandah, freezing to death, and I could hear what sounded like something breathing, I got a bit spooked and stood still to listen harder (is that even possible?)
I couldn't identify it and it sounded like it was coming from the verandah above me, I wasn't game to go see what was there, it may only have been a possum asleep on the lounge up there ????

Whatever it was, I hurried me and the dog back inside as if all the hounds of hell were behind us, so whatever it was, it can stay a mystery until doomsday. LOLOLOL!!!!

Meganne, Apparently it is mating time for possums. Wasn't a koala in the distant even though it sounded like it was on the verandah above.

meganne by meganne 01 Jun 2011

Haven't seen any Koala's here, don't think there are enough Eucalyptus gums in this area. Though they could all be hiding. :-)

I live out in the country on ten acres with my house in the middle of the acreage, so I have so much privacy and I love it!!! I do not have to worry about anyone hearing me or my machine!!

You come up with the best questions.

My nearest neighbor has 5 children making noise and one that plays some kind of big horn in a school band. It is AWFUL!!!. If they hear my machine. Tough! I dare anyone to say anything.

I often think of questions but don't always ask. You see being by myself I have all day to think.

I hate those awful recorders school kids play, they torture everyone nearby.

My brother's apartment is in the basement of our house. He is one floor below, and one room over from my sewing room. He said he has never heard me when I am sewing, day or night. Since he is my closest "neighbour", I don't have to worry.

You are lucky that you have family so close. They would tell you if they were bothered by your machine.

We're in an apt. and I have run my machine into the wee hours and haven't heard any complaints (yet).

Possibly the machines aren't as loud as we think.

My neighbors make a more noise than my machines. But my nearest neighbor is about 25 to 30 acres away. If they hear my machine, I need to get a new one. :-)

Think this is possibly my case as well. Most of my living is on the opposite side to my neighbours. My sleeping side is closest to them. They are too far away to hear me snoring.

Too funny.

I have wonderful neighbours - never hear a sound from them and they certainly do not hear my machine or television as there is quite a distance between our houses.

Our nearest neighbor is just next door..our driveways are between the houses. We get along great. Her hubby died this yr (at age 60!) & we all miss him sooooo much. Noise? Nothing I can hear nor she can hear..I don't even hear the trains that coming blowing thru all nite! Guess it's all in what you get used to. We are so lucky to have good neighbors.

If and when I can hear trains (They must be at least 5 miles away)I am told that means it is going to rain.

When we were talking, my neighbor told me she could hear my machine...a driveway seperates our houses...she is on the first floor (her bedroom), my sewing room is on the second floor of our house. THEN...they put windchimes up and have been complete idiots letting these chime through storms..etc...to the point where they would keep us awake at all hours of the night...night after night. We have kinda solved that problem...installed central air, so now we don't have to keep any windows open during the summer heat. And like Bev...they make more noise than we ever will...SO...I really don't care if she hears the machine...or not. Actually, I kinda hope she hears it...once in a while! (you will never know the problems with these people...yikes!)

Oh...and the people behind us? They stare out the window ALL night at our house. They are weird. :(

I can see why I like not having close neighbours.

bevintex by bevintex 31 May 2011

Some people have too much time on their hands , they should get an embroidery machine. As for the neighbors behind you just keep your doors locked. LOL
Bev

We live in a basment apartment - my Landlady and Landlord swear they can't hear my machine or TV - but we can hear theirs occasionally - she has a sewing machine and there are times - when I can tell when she starts and stops it - but if they are saying they can't hear us - that is great - because we pay no attention to time around here - Hehehe!

I have a commercial 15 needle machine, and my studio is on the lower level. You can't hear my machine up on main level.

I have a baby monitor near my machine with the other part of the monitor on the upper level so I can hear when it stops or beeps for a broken thread. My husband goes to bed early as he gets up about 4:30 am, but he never hears the machine, and I'm usually up stitching till the wee hours.

I don't think you would have to worry about being to close to neighbors.

Instead of turning up your TV really load, get yourself, if your TV has an outlet and use earplugs. Works great for me.
I have a small TV in my sewing room and also a portable DVD player so I watch TV or a movie and don't have to have the volume up to loud.

My neighbors are close but not close enough for anything to be heard by or from any of their homes unless they are having a loud party. I grew up on a farm in Oregon with few close neighbors. That is tough when you are the only girl around. I like the "closeness" of my neighbors.

I don'y know anyone close with an embroidery machine. Surely I am not the only one with an embroidery machine here is Adelaide.
