You can make your quilts out of just about anything. I have several treasured quilts from my grandmother that are made out of the polyester clothes we had in the 70's and from old wool coats. Back then you didn't use stabilizer, just the patience of a saint!! Stabilizer sounds like an excellent idea! Have fun quilting!!
Anything goes any more with quilts. Think about the clothes quilts people make. They have a combination of everything. You can stabilize it, if it has some stretch, with fusible interfacing. If you are not stabilizing and using a mix of cotton and cotton/poly, then I would probably pre-wash all your fabics just to avoid possible shrinkage of some of the fabrics later.
I personally use only polly as it washes the best and i find it lasts way longer then cotton but thats just me hugs carolyn
If you find that this fabric is too lightweight, stretchy or flimsy, you can iron interfacing (lightweight) onto the back and this will help hold it's shape and give it a better feel.
This fabric will work beautifully, if it is flimsy or ravels to much you can always use a thin iron on on the back side, but I've seen quilts that combine all types of fabrics together, satins and batiks with florals and linens with corduroy. Have fun and post a pix when you're done.
Yes, a quilt can be made in any fabric you want. The defination of a quilt is not cotton fabric only. It will stretch more than cotton , usually frayes more, and will not shrink like cotton. I used it with cotton since I love gingham and can be very hard to find in cotton. I used a lot of starch to help it retain it's shape.
