The coaster on my Brother is 10.4 which is one of the medium sizes. It is 4 inches in diameter. On the second coaster my machine just chewed up a piece of the pattern and it disappered. The first try I didn't even finish it. Is the pattern too small making it too dense for my machine?. I really love this Coaster but if I can't get it right then I am just wasting everything. You will see the bit missing in the top of the photo which I will put into projects.

Your machine does have two speeds 350 and 650 - and probably came set at 650 from the factory (my 780 - which is like the 1200 without sewing). You can change it on the "settings" button - page through the pages until you get to where the speed setting is. The manual for your machine is available at the link below if you did not get one with your machine. This particular function is in the "embroidery" section of the manual.

Well, you learn something new every day. Thankyou. I have never known this and do have a Manual. I will have to study it. I never looked as the lady said, when I bought the machine said that you can change the speed on the sewing section but not the embroidery. I will check and maybe try that coaster again. A million thankyou s.

Which Brother machine do you have? Many of them do have adjustable speeds - and slowing it down helps a lot - perhaps another cutie could help you with that. Like others, I use the fabric-type washaway (Vilene) - two layers - with much success. Another thing that seems to help is using a new needle - some places of FSL get really thick with thread and a new needle helps it get through those places.

Thanks. I have an Innovis 1200 (Australia). For embroidery it only has one speed and that is whatever the design says. This design seems to make the machine sew fast. I used solvy for the first. For the second I used solvy with a new needle. Then I made the design larger, chanver to a different vilene type of wash away and succeeded.

i also have an innovis 1200 and it has 3 speeds i have not tried to slow it down in the embroidery but on the middle of the frame just underneath the thread winder part there is a slide for 3 different speeds wonder why your is different....soozie

The slider is for sewing, not embroidery. The speeds for embroidery are in the settings section of the machine and I believe there are two speeds 350 and 350 (it is basically a 780 with the sewing section and I have the 780).

I always have trouble stitching FSL on my Brother machine.

Since the same designs stitch perfectly on my other machines, I put it down to the fact that the Brother only has two speeds and even the slowest speed is too fast for stitching FSL.

It sure is a lovely coaster, I can understand you wanting to make it.

I only ever use Fabric type WSS, I really don't like the plastic type.

Meganne, Your message is interesting. I wondered if the machine was going too fast. I think my machine speed is guided by the digitizing. I changed the solvy to the fabric type washaway. The first went through eith just a couple of breaks but the secong was sent to try me again but I got there in the end. I also made it larger. They are soaking now so will post tomorrow. Thanks.

I also used two layers of water soluble vilene and I had no issues in stitching out this coaster. I have a Brother Innovis machine.

Leonie, The second try I used a vilene type of washaway and it was much better. I had problems on the little loop parts.

I always use two layers of Vilene, I don't remember it causing me any problems. Have you checked your machine for threads in the upper or bobbin area? Maybe when it first ate it something got caught and is messing it up even now. Did you try a different thread? Maybe the thread is just disagreeing with this design. Embroidery machines sure can be problematic sometimes.

After it happened I took parts of the machine apart and cleaned it up. Don't think this is the problem as I keep my machine pretty fluff clean. Maybe the solvy is just not strong enough. Really disappointed as I love this design.

I am sure someone will help you Lyn. A while back in a discusson about FSL someone mentioned that using 2 layers of solvy can cause problems. Good luck. Marg

Thanks Marg. If anyone is ever going to have a problem you can bet it will always be me.
