float the stablizer under it or do I need to hoop the stablizer as well. I hate the thought of wasting all that stalizer if I don't have to.

I have done this on a pillow cover. The one I tried to list under projects. Mainly because I decided after I did the design & removed the stabilizer I wanted to add the names so I floated the stabilizer under it. Here is the pillow. Don't know why I can't upload under projects but it did here.

I'm so glad you asked this question. I've never been brave enough to try this method.

I agree with the others. Just float a piece under the hoop and call it a day.

i do it all the time to use up small pieces and it works for me as long as the fabric is hooped tight :):) carolyn

Why don't you just pin, tape or temp glue a piece of stabiliser, slightly larger than each embroidery, to the underside of the fabric?

Make sure your material is hooped firmly and can't slip though. I would use some of that non slip rubbery stuff to line between the inner/outer hoop to prevent the fabric from slipping.
just my thoughts.
