I have three email addresses. One of these is published on the website of an organisation I am the secretary of and I get hundreds of spam emails. I have become more savvy and protected the other two by not making them public in an email form. I get no spam at these addresses. For instance I always put cutesecretsanta(at)yahoo(dot)com if I type this address in the forum. not using the @ sign particularly, stops the spammers automatic search for email addresses.

Unfortunately the secretsanta address appeared in full a couple of times last week and now, the spam has started to flow in!
I am not criticising those who gave the address - it was entirely my fault for not explaining my quirky system at the start. However, I have posted this message in the hope it might help some of you in the future.

I was wondering why you did that, lol! Very clever, sorry we didn't know why you did this, I think those who did put the whole address out there wouldn't have had we known. Oh well, next secret cute round you may need to change the address. So sorry you got spammed!!

Sue I rarely get spam. But, there is someone in the UK who secretly wants to get $53 million dollars out of the UK and into an Australian bank account. If you can find him then you will be set for life. All I want is 10% commission. Haahaahaahaa. Good luck. Marg

I'm really happy that I did not get so much spam. Once I had a adress at hotmail and I get lots of "great offers" (just say: universitas diplomas ;o).
When I get spam-mails I click on them and send them back to sender with my mac-program so that the sender gets a message that the adress didn't exist.
I also have more than one adress and try to keep my "private adress" for the important things. Have one for my business and one for all my embroidery-NL. Only problem is that my paypal-account is conected to the private-account and this caused some mistakes (even here on cute when I renew my membership).
Thank you for the tip with the writing (at)---(dot)
Grettings, Bettina

Bettina when you send spam back they know that that address DOES EXIST. Otherwise if it did not exist how would it get sent back and who would have sent it back. Just delete them permanently from your computer. Marg

Thank you for posting this - I had no idea that using the "real" address would cause spam - and I think I was one that did in the post last week. Sorry, and thanks so much for pointing this out to all of us.

have the cuties heard of a free programe called "mail washer" as i said it is free to download and to get your mail you open mail washer and it shows a list of email waiting to download to your mail program one good feature is that you can right click and blacklist any unwanted sender and if they send again it shows up orange in you list of waiting mail with he blacklisted sign alternatively mark someone "friend" i find this works very well as you can delete any unwanted quickly and eaisly before it downloads on to your harddrive.....hope this is helpful....soozie

I use web-based email so I only bring what I want into my computer. I always report the spammers!

Yes, I noticed how careful you were. What a pity it was repeated with the @ sign.
