fit my 5x7 hoop,or do I have to resize them? Some seem to be lacey so I'm not even sure that would be wise.Could someone please explain this? Thanks!

What machine do you have? Maybe someone with the same machine will be able to help you more?

Thanks. I have a Brother 770. It doesn't really matter..just a little bugbear so to speak.

Yes it'll fit as a little leeway is factored into the hoop. But not design will work. Check your manual it should tell you the correct measurements

I have no idea why this is except as some of the answers here say. There was a design set that my friend purchased that said they were a certain size but then didn't fit the stated hoop. The size was too big. She contacted the company and they resized the designs to fit. I feel the design should fit the stated hoop especially if you've downloaded the required format for your machine. In saying that, I'm not a digitizer so I don't know the specifics on making a design.

Thanks. I purchased the larger hoop (in fact bought a machine that would take a larger hoop)...and now it seems that I am 'hooped'! LOL!

If the design is more than 4X4, you have to go to the next size up which is the 5X7. If it is over the 4x4, it will not fit in the 5X7/or it may fit but your machine will not let you sew it because it the needle will bo too close to the frame. If my design is going to be too close to the frame of the hoop, my machine will not work. It has a brain of is own and sometimes that is a blessing! Have fun! Enjoy your machine. I am having a time with mine right now! Linda

Thanks! I hope you can enjoy too! It seems the way to successful machine embroidery has many pitfalls. Thank goodness for "CUTIES"!

While the hoops are referred to as either 4x4 or 5x7 different machines have slightly different hoop sizes.
Metric and Imperial measurements also seem to come into it. If you check in your manual you should be able to find the exact dimensions for your machine.
For example my Janome hoop is 200mmx140mm or 8x5 1/2 inches, while my brother hoop is 180mmx130mm or approx. 5x7 inches (quote from manual)

I don't know. I do know that my 4x4 hoop actually takes a little bit smaller than 4 inches. So if it says 3.91 I'm good. I think every machine/brand is different so you will just have to experiment to see what your machine will actually take.

Unfortunately I can't afford to make too many of these experiments.

My 4x4 also takes a little bit smaller - which sometimes is a nuisance.

Nadyne, I believe that it will fit into your 5x7 hoop - but the only way to find out - is to open it into your PC program or load it onto your machine.

Thanks Shirlene. This is sooo frustrating. It seems that if I want the larger designs(5x7),I have to purchase them first to see if they will fit,and if they don't,I am 'out of pocket' so to speak...but then I have to use the 5x7 hoop to make the4x4 patterns fit....it just seems that there is something wrong with this picture. :-((
