I might be buying a new machine.. (in the near future) and would like some info on a home (not industrial, too pricey) machine with a 6x10 sewing field aswell as a USB port, any suggestions?

Deirdre I hope your machine hunting will go well. It is just a pity that we dont have the variety of our overseas Cuties. Another factor to keep in mind is you dealer. Which one is close to you? I feel that is very important. Wat is in Witbank? Kontak vir Bokkieborduur.

Thanks very much for everyone's input.. I surely have some research to do now, and with your help I know where to start. I have an elna, and I felt that the only missing things were the USB an a bigger hoop (I already have the 4x4 and 5x7) for all the amazing bigger designs out there. xx

I would suggest that you go visit a dealer of the various brands in you area. Ask for a demo. Be sure to know what exactly comes with it. Don't forget about taxes which add up to a good sum. If you already have software be sure that it is compatible with the machine.

just purchased a Ellageo Plus got a great deal on it.
Have not figured it all out yet. It is a lot different than my Esante ESE2. But I will figure it all out soon I hope. My friend Betsy is coming over on Wednesday to help me. She is also a Cute member. Check out the machines before you but, see if you can test them out at the dealer. Sara

I purchased the Baby Lock Ellageo Plus (4x4, 5x7 & 6x10 hoops come with it) last July from my Baby Lock Dealer for $4,000 which encluded the Gold Standard package. They have a program where you can get interest free financing for up to 18 months & sometimes more. I got mine on a 18 month no interest which worked out great for me because I just divided my total by 18 & it will be paid off in another 7 months. I also added the Kola cabinet which I also got through my Baby Lock Dealer with the same deal. I love my machine it takes the same PES card from PED BASIC as my Brother's SE270D but it also can download right from my computer from the USB port & it will also take the UBS sticks & has many built in designs. Here is the link to this machine so you can see what it is like. It is always best to buy from your local dealer. I for one did not do that with my Brother machine & was sorry because you don't have any recourse but to deal with the company you purchased it from through phone or emails.

I have the Janome MC11000SE. I have the FA - 2x2, ST - 4.9x4.3, SQ - 7.9x7.9, MA - 7.9x11 and the AQ hoop for stippling.
It has a USB port, ATA card slot and can connect to my computer.
But, as others have mentioned having a dealer close is important and to have a look and test drive them to find your comfort one.
Good luck.

I have two brothers (and love them) - they are twins to babylocks so you could look at whichever one you have in your area. I have the Quattro which is the Ellissimo in babylock. It is the top brother and runs about $7,000 US in my area. The 4500D (brother)/Ellegante 2 (babylock) has most all of the features as the Quattro/Ellisimo except the camera function (that is the biggest feature missing). Not sure if that is something you want/need or not. The 4500D runs about $4300 US in my area. My other brother is an embroidery only (I upgraded to the Quattro and kept it to sell locally) but only goes to a 5 x 7 (the PE780D).

Best thing to do is to go to the dealers and test drive before you buy - that way you will know how it "feels" to you. Service at the dealer is also an important thing to have.

Good luck with your search!

I have two babylocks and love them . I had the Elligante and traded up to an Ellissimo. I love them both. You should consider who is near you to repair them if sommeting goes wrong. A qualified factory trained repair person. Then consider your choices. I suggest you try them at the store then make up your mind. Good luck Suzanne

Hi Deirdre,

I love the HUSQVARNA range of embroidery machines. I have the Designer 1 but unfortunately it doesn't have a 6x10. I have the 4x4, 5x7, 6x6, 7x11 and the Endless hoop. I think the DIAMOND may have larger hoops, and I believe the TOPAZ has large hoops as well. Have a look at the HUSQVARNA website. I've put the website for the Husqvarna sewing machines in the closest big city to where you live and I notice it is PRETORIA. I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but the top of the range ones here in Australia are nearly $10,000.00. You will need to check them all out. If you like have a look at the top of the page under REVIEWS and there are comments on a lot of the sewing machines.

Love and blessings Chris

I have the Diamond and love it. Not the new deluxe however. There is a Ruby version that is a little less expensive and is a great machine. I had that before trading up to the Diamond.
