I called computer guy today to look at it. Haven't had the return call yet. Support at Brother said it is in the computer not the software. It downloads and works on the desktop but not the laptop where I do my work. I've looked for some kind of block on programs but can't find a thing. Thanks. Nanc

dont know if this is your answer but i know that windows 7 with 64 bit do not have all the drivers for all programs and some have not been written we had a man who just bought a new comp[uter with 64 bit and has just recently( prior to purchasing the computer) bought a new expensive printer and guess what there is no driver compatable with the 64 bit hope this is clear and helpful....soozie

So unfair to change the Windows programs all time so we have to get updates or new programs because the old ones won't work. Money in their pocket I guess.

Since you have 64bit Windows 7, you'll need to run PED Basic in XP Compatibility mode - which never occurred to me, so thx to vickiannette for diagnosing your system :)

Here are some links to Microsoft's Win7 pages relating to XP compatibility mode: what it is; how to install it (if you don't already have it installed); and how to use it. I found this really interesting reading, hope you do too and that it helps you :) xXx

Just check to see if you have a 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 7. Go to 'Computer' then to 'System Properties'. This was my problem, when I tried to get 4D programme to work [Pfaff 2170] with windows 7. Because I had a 32 bit, it meant that I had to click the 'box' which indicated windows XP. Would not work when I clicked the windows 7 'box'

Mine is 64 bit. Don't have a clue what that means.

I had to go to the Brother's site to get ped basic to work because it will not work from the CD download on Windows 7. I didn't have any problem. Here is the site I used here if you are in the US. Make sure you go to your computer control panel & remove any hardware you may have downloaded for the Ped Basic before you try to reinstall.

You have received a good answer from danababes. That is what worked for me.

This is taken from the Brother USA software update page:

"If you use PED-Basic on Windows Vista®/ Windows® 7, never install the programs from the CD in your package!!
To prevent a problem, please install these programs instead of using the CD.
（Version information : PED-Basic Ver1.07 and Driver Ver3.0)"

so, if you've installed from CD you'll need to uninstall it before installing the files which Brother provides (see link below). You'll need the card reader/writer driver (setupCRWDriver301PED.exe(Driver/Ver. 3.0) and the PED Basic program (BasicUpTo107.exe Software/Ver. 1.07).

This should get you up-and-running again :) xXx

I have already tried all this. I uninstalled the old one. I tried downloading and installing several times from the website and it still will not work. Thanks anyway. Nanc
