Corrupt business people and politicians are who I "credit" with our government not meeting their budgets. In our homes, when the money runs out, we need to stop spending... government does not understand that concept.
I live in Illinois where yet another govenor is now a multiple felon.. and awaits sentancing.
I'm not at all sure where it stops. But, it seems we are all ready for at least a slow down of some sort.
Getting by on less is not always a bad thing.
Being forced to do so is not much fun.
Hang in there, everyone.

I live in MN and our government is shut down right now. I hope something good comes out of it. All our leaders want to add more taxes, and now they are applying "Fees" to small businesses so they don't have to call it taxes. It amounts to the same thing. Instead of increasing taxes I think they need to tighten their belts like the rest of us have to! Stop all the stupids spending locally, state wide and throughout the country, especially DC. After all I could care less if a shrimp can run on a tread mill or how many shakes it takes a dog to get the water out of its hair. I mean really!!?!?! Not to mention spending all this money to countries who hate us!
I think I need to jump off my soap box now before I get everyone riled up.
Sorry folks

Sdrise, Many years ago our forfather left other countries to get away from being over taxed. Now look what is happening in America. If they would just clean up state and federal governments they could live on what they have with surplus. We have to try and live on what we have--and there are very few jobs in this state. They have there open pocket books--just tax, tax, and tax. Here is what happened when I worked for a company that did electronics. A lady from Mexico came in as a temp. The company wanted to hire her permanently she refused. I ask her why she did not want to be hired. She said she would lose her FREE housing, utilities, food, and health care for her and her three children. Her husband was also here but he lived with other people so she could get more free things. I get so sick of hearing that "Mexican people do work that Americans will not do." I did a job that a Mexican person would not do. I also worked in the berry and bean fields when I was younger. I know there are many good, hardworking legal Mexican people here--and that there are good and bad in all races. The biggest reason they always say they need more money is the schools. I say close all public schools and give families vouchers for charter or private school. My youngest son graduated and can hardly write. Still mad over that!! I do not know about other states, however it is state unions that are killing this state. This is not intended to hurt anyone of our family--it is just what I am seen and living. H&*

My great grand parents came here through the front door and stayed on Ellis Island until that door was opened. I agree with you 100%. Not just Mexicans, but anyone else who takes and takes and doesn't give. Lordy, I need to get off this soap box!

sewfrenzie by sewfrenzie 03 Jul 2011

I also agree! If you want to live in this country than become an American and pay taxes like the rest of us. If not go home!

caroldann by caroldann 03 Jul 2011

Amend to that!

Sorry, meant amen to that!

You think taxing is bad.....here in TN our legislators have passed a law forbidding uploading any thing that is offensive to anyone on the internet at any site.....it of course includes obscene, but what would be funny for me, might be offensive to someone else, so I am not uploading anything any more to any thing.....it goes for any thing on any site....
the legality of this law is being contested as I speak.....I will pay a tax but to be arrested and put in jail for posting a picture that is offensive is just unbelievable.....

Well, I hope it doesn't happen in our State.

They have cut state funding in so many areas here... education is being hit so hard... They are raising the cost of Tuition by 20% for the fall at the school one of our children attends.

Did you know that in almost all states that have a sales tax if you buy something via the internet, mail order, etc and you are not charged the sales tax applicable for your state/county/city that you are required by law to submit the tax to the state/county/city? 99.9% of people do not. That is why states are changing how they collect taxes. In a way you cannot blame them. If you were to go to a store in your state and buy something you would pay the tax. If you buy it off the internet most times you do not pay the tax. Why should the state suffer because you chose an option that currently allows you to skirt around paying the tax? Don't get me wrong I am not a tax lover. I believe that we expect our govenment (city/county/state/federal) to pick up the tab on way too many things and expect someone else to pay for it. But enough for my soapbox today. Back to reading, downloading and tending peoples gardens. Flowers for all-they are still free and not taxed.

Yes I am aware of it and I do pay my fair share. But now they are taxing everything. I have a 15 year old car they are also taxing now. I have not paid taxes on that car for years now. I paid all the taxes for many many years on it and it was paid off now they are taxing it agian.

Are you in California? I know that Amazon has informed it's affiliate marketers in California that they will no longer be allowed to market due to this tax. It makes no sense at all. In Australia the business is responsible for collecting and paying the GST (General Sales Tax) The customer does not pay it to the Government the business does, but if the sale is being made in another country where the tax does not apply then the tax should not be charged. According to my accountant it is not necessary to apply a tax to digital items sold on line because they can be purchased in any country and therefore the tax does not apply. I don't understand how a state can just decide that it will charge a tax when the company selling could be anywhere in the world.
The scary thing is that I know this has happened in
California (not sure where else) but if California can do it then Queensland being the biggest nanny state in the world will surely do it next.

They bill your phone bill or internet company and you pay for it from your bill.

I don't know how they could do it on freebies, but I guess charges to credit cards could have taxes added. Maybe you could use a relatives card in another state and then send them a check each month for what you charged. Would that be illegal? Kay

I don't know But it is on the designs that you pay for .Anything you pay to DL will be taxed.

I wonder if this can be worked around by having the purchased designs emailed to you instead of a direct download. Just a thought.

hi sdrise, canada has to be the highest and the most taxed country.we have GST, PST, HST, CARBON TAX,next they will be charging us for breathing.we pay tax on tax.now everybody is going on strike.where will all this end. very depressing.

airyfairy by airyfairy 03 Jul 2011

I can beat that. At one time our government here in SA were going to have a tax called 'Toilet Tax' for the number of loos in the home.........

debswebster by debswebster 03 Jul 2011

Have you checked you Water bill lately, we are now being taxed 75% extra on what is considered "grey" water usage...in other words we get taxed for flushing our toilets, bathing and doing the laundry!!! That's South Africa for you. There was no blatant increase in Water charge but a subliminal tax crept in!!

Free is free--what would they base the tax on? Are you sure they aren't talking about taxing things you buy like the EBooks on Amazon, Kindle, etc. They are already taxed in alot of states, and the tax is disclosed before you hit the "buy now", button. I downloaded the electronic version of a quilt book from the net, and was charged tax. No different from purchasing from the store.
