I much prefer evenweave fabric for hand cross stitch, although I occasionally cheat and use Aida fabric to make it easier to see. I can't really see the point of using it for machine cross stitch which I think looks wonderful on even(ish)weave linen or cotton. I did some gift bags last Christmas on scrim (a sort of smaller scale hessian) and they looked great.
I am still a novice but by accident I embroidered a monogram in cross stitch the other day. I did it on a white cotton handkerchief and it is the best thing I have done so far.
It works beautifully on felt. But of course felt may not be approprite for your project.
I do a lot of hand x stitch and I think trying to use the Aidia (sp!)fabric would be quite difficult. I have used various materials including towels for machine x stitch and they have all come out well. Give it a try and see how you get on. Sarah.
yes, it will very authentic [but will require some effort in the hooping]
I have used cotton duck fabric in the natural biege or white color you find most xstitch fabric, and the
xstitch looks great on it!

did a baby quilt but never took pics come to think of it i never had a good camera then.lol carolyn
I also have only used normal fabric. thought would not line up as I like everything perfect lol. Must give it a try one day lol
If you use xs fabric, you have to be sure your fab is the same size as the design..ex: 14 or 16 or 18 etc. Then you need to be sure you start the first stitch in one of the holes. It should look great, but, boy, a lot of lining up! I used to do reg. xs on plain fab using this mesh stuff you pulled out...string by string...after the design was done!!
anything you would normally stitch on will work great, you can use xstitch fabric but it probably won't line up on the 'holes'. I've done several xmas stockings (from emblibrary) and they came out adorable. Have fun
Hi on regular fabric, I don't think it would work on xstitch fabric
regular fabric, I have never use xstitch fabric. Will have to try. DeVon
