I want to edit it in Embird, but can't figure out how to open the .hus in the Studio part of Embird....I should be able to do that...shouldn't I?? This is going to be my first project with my new machine...hopefully so I want it to be right :)

this site has lots of freebies. there's a fsl dragonfly there that might work, if not enjoy the butterflies!

Yes, you can.
Open your design in Editor, right click and choose 'Edit stitch file in Studio' or use Shift+Control+E. All objects are stitch objects. Remove and re-digitise the parts you want.
It's also the ideal way to add connection stitches where there are none.

I found that yesterday. I was hoping there was a lazier way...you know...just select the area object of the wings...and alter the pattern :)

Another idea could be to baste an "Applique fabric /Mylar foil" to the item you are going to embroider and stitch out the rest of the motiv without the fills (just skip the color when you run the process).

Or for Embird: open the design in Editor, delete the fill stitches and save the "new" design to a format the machine (or your special version of Embird.)will read, then fill the parts with a new pattern or stamp stitch in Studio.
