I've been pretty lucky lately that I've run into estate sales & yard sales where people of de-stashing. Went to an estate sale yesterday and there was tons of fabric and this is after the 2nd day of the sale and her daughters & friends already took what they wanted. I bought 4 yards of a beautiful Northcott fabric 'Quest for a Cure' in lt greens, pink, lavendar, blue with hydrandeas on it. 3 yards of Moda Deb Strain fabric tan w/teal wedding quilt print, 2 yards+ bright racing fabric, 2 yds airplane fabric, 1 yd+ patriotic fabric, 8-10 yds flannel, 2 rolls of new stabilizer and a bunch of other smaller pieces of fabric for ..... $16! I'm just upset I wasn't there the day before.

great news. good for you. i have some bolts of fabric, needless to say, there is no excuse not to cut into these, but there it sits waiting for inspiration. thanks to everyone on this page today.
I'm glad I don't live too close to a quilt shop or fabric store. I'd be in the poor house for sure. I already have enough fabric stashed around here for several life times! I have a lovely wardrobe planned in my head and the fabric stacked waiting. It may never happen, but it's beautiful in my mind.
I think we are all the same. Was not a difficult decision was it? And I have stacks of fabric just because it is so beautiful. heheh (wish the shop was near me!!! - envy you)
Very pleased for you that the story had a happy ending. I also buy fabric and then keep it!!
There's a simple answer - do what I do when you find a beautiful fabric and can't bear to cut into - buy a piece just for cutting! so you have it both ways " you cake to eat and your cake to have!
Happy quilting!

They are so worried about people getting addicted to drugs, maybe they should start putting warning labels on the fabric.
"Handle with care, buying fabric is very addictive"
Symptoms of this addiction..
1. The ladies at the fabric shops know your name. 2. Fabric is stashed in the car waiting for the right time to bring it into the house.
3. Cabinets, closets & plastic tubs stuffed so full, they could explode at any minute.
4. Your GPS is programmed to locate any fabric shops within a 100 miles no matter where you go.
5. Realizing when you get home, that fantastic new fabric you just had to buy...is already in your stash
TOO, TOO FUNNY, WE MUST ALL THINK ALIKE. thank you for sharing. made my day.
If you keep it long enough you can call it vintage. You could make a fortune if you could bear to part with it. LOL

Yes I definately agree sometimes it just hurts to think of cutting it! But in the end it would be just absolutely PERFECT ON _____________! Sew we gotta do it! Glad that it worked out for you!
I do it with towels. I have some so pretty that I am waiting for the perfect design and can't bare to stitch on them. I guess it is the same with fabric!!! Do you remember when we all bought Ultra suede fabric. It laid on my cutting table a week before I could get the nerve to cut it out. Some where in the late 1970's. Kay
No question!! It would be the fabric!!! Never have enough or the right one. I just love fabric. lol I think I also have your "disease". It can be too pretty to cut.
Well, now...... at last..... it seems I'm completely normal!!!!
Yes - I've been 'saving' fabric and left-over bits and pieces for ever, like 53 years of marriage. I have a small room almost chockers with small lengths of fabric I've bought in the past but didn't seem to be able to cut into at the time. Now, a lot of that fabric is out of date and I have to tell myself that if I had used it many years ago I'd have the quilts and things now to show for it, and they'd still be pretty and in use. The allure of new stuff is very strong and I'm really clever at convincing myself that I really do need newer, prettier, more appropriate fabric.
Truth is...... I'm afraid to delve too deeply into the little room for fabric in case I get lost, never to be found again... :}
I just wish my old fabric wouldn't take on the mustiness of old age just because I've lived in humid climates for so long.

so funny, i see myself in your words, so i guess i am laughing at myself?
Well I too think I would have ended up with the fabric and not my money. I have a piece of fabric I bought from Liberty's of London over 30 years ago and goodness knows when it will get used. Perhaps we should start a fabric swap here and get some of the saved fabric sewn up
Liberty fabric is so beautiful - I still have a glasses case that my cousin gave me years ago made from Liberty fabric.
Isn't 5 yards of fabric just the right amount for any project I might do? Enjoy your fabric. Bet it looks pretty in your sewing room.
Oh Yes, I do the same thing! My husband laughs and asks me what I plan to do with the fabric I just bought "because I just had to have it" syndrome. I have a wardrobe and more filled with my fabric treasures. Will I ever use all the fabric I have? Maybe never because I continue to add to the stash! Don't we all!?
Yes. I love to save my favorite fabrics. I have to force myself to use my favorites. If someone gives me their old throw away scraps and whip up sometime cute right away...but have trouble cutting into my expensive beautiful prints. I'm gong to die with all my good prints sitting in the drawer! :D
Great news! I have a really beautiful purple batik that I refuse to cut. I've only had it for about 2 years, but it's just so pretty. I bought it for a quilt for my dau, but used another color instead. I know, some day I'm just going to have to do it but it'll be something for me. Have fun. Carol
