Hello Cuties,I hae a free FSL snowflake design from ann the gran. However I cant get it to stitch correctly and have already had to unjam my machine three times.

I have hooped two layers of solvy one going one way one going the other way and it just keeps tearing the solvy and poking all the lace down the needle hole. What can I do other than stitch this on fabric then try to carefully cut out.

thanks i know somebody knows the answer.

Luv val x

Great suggestions by cuties. I have one more. I use heavy weight badgemaster all the time for FSL. It works great. The best price I have found for it is from AllStitch. I also have Vilene which is also a great product.

If these suggestions don't correct the problems you are having you may just have a bad design. It does happen sometimes.

As the others have suggested - it is the sort of WSS that you are using - that sort is for a topping - to go on top of a design - it isn't for FSL - you need the WSS that looks somewhat like mesh or very thin fabric - you will be so much more happy using this sort of WSS - then you will get the finish that you are looking for and more than likely no trouble while stitching FSL.

Mops is right. What you are using is intended to be a topping. Vilene is a good choice; some other brands are Wet-N-Gone by Floriani and Wash-N-Gone by Pellon. Use two layers. Also, start with a new needle and slow down your machine.

I've used regular solvy but you need about 5 layers of it. Cleaning the bobbin area is a good idea too. Sometime is smallest piece of thread can be the cause. Another thought, are you using the same thread that you always use? My machine does not like some thread and no matter what I do it will not sew properly.

Use Vilene.

The solvy needs to be Ultra Solvy to use for fsl. It is the heaviest (solvy, super solvy, ultra solvy.) Regular stuff-plastic wrap thickness-can be used as a topper on knits.

Solvy won't work, no matter how many layers you use. You could use tulle or organza between layers of Solvy.
What you need is the type that looks woven, goes by different names, Vilene being one of them.

The plastic type only works when it's 60 micron or more (like Badgemaster)otherwise it will tear.

You may need to clean the bobbin area of the machine. I have had knotting issues when I didn't realize I had some lint build up.

Try changing your needle and bobbin thread then rethread the top and try again. Other than that, good luck. I love FSL!
