joanie, my dear - it sounds like you have your answer - so I will wish you a good day - from hence forth - *4U
Ok, Joanie, here comes probably more information than you want to know. MS stands for Microsoft, and DOS is Disk Operating System. "DOS" is also short for one of the original programs that ran the computers, and it had a machine language you needed to speak to get into the thing. My first computer ran on DOS, and I learned it so I could communicate with the beast. "Windows" is Microsoft's version of a disk operating system, but no matter what build you have, it has MS DOS at its heart. You just can't get to it any more on most computers. And you don't need to, unless you're a programmer. As to why you're getting those messages that things are in DOS, I haven't a clue. Are you running Vista? Maybe it's a bug in Vista. Here I thought XP was bad. I really *liked* DOS. It had no pretty pictures, but it was logical, and you didn't lose things in oblivion, as long as you filed them logically. Oh, well, how times have changed. If I didn't have XP, I wouldn't have you gals!! it's worth it! Marji
Thank you sew much Marji. Yes, I have vista. I reallt didn't want it, but last yr when we got it everything else was starting to go obsolete. I never really cared much for XP either. The comp b4 that was my first, to which was Windows 98 and I loved and never had any problems except burnt the hard drive yr one from so much use... ran like a dream after that for another 5-6 yrs til I traded it for the XP. Hence, it probably is a bug in vista like you say. I will just check after all daily/hourly downloads for a while then I guess. Thanks again. *4U ><>
Joanie, teri (simplyrosie) is right, that could be your problem sweetie, hugs and a flower and hope you get it all sorted soon.
Thank you. Her idea helped some... Now what about MS-DOS? Anybody ever use that for anything? IF so, what? *4U ><>
Oh my goodness, those were the days, haha. Life was, as in computers, so much simpler then, especially programing, but now with Windows, life is so much prettier. We could never have run the internet on DOS, no way at all! So while I still have some good thoughts about DOS, some bad ones too, I wouldn't part with Windows and my friends at *Cute*!!! Love you all.
Joanie, what's the file extension that those zip files were saved as (if there is NO file extension, that may be your problem... add .zip at the end of the file name)? Do you have them on your desktop?
Thank you. I went to double check.. They do "Save as" a "Compressed Zip", but end up MS-DOS?!?! So, What I tried was "Save As" "All FIles" and it worked?!?! Then, I also tried adding the ".zip" like you said and it worked too. Ok. I went to re-down a dif design that happened to earlier, but 'without changing' it at all, it worked this time?! Arrrrhhh. At least I can go back and retrieve some designs now. Temperamental computer I guess. Thank you sew much for the hint and I will go that route when prob arises. Flowers for you
