Dear Ruthie, Part of my prayers every night are for the soldiers who are fighting to keep us free. Tonight I will include special prayers for the ANZACs. God bless you for keeping them close to your heart! Thank-you for letting us know. *4U
I stand and salute all the military men who have fought with & beside ours 4 our freedoms that do enjoy now. A prayer 4 all & their families also. My dad & my late husband were both Marines in WW11 & in S. Pacific. Aussies fought beside them *U
Lbrow, thank you for joining us in commemoration to the people who made Australia what it is today, hugs and a flower sweetie.
Thanks Ruthie for sharing with our world friends but I think you meant April 25th, not 26th.
The Ode to our Fallen: They shall grow not old, As we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, And in the morning We will remember them. Lest we Forget.
Thanks Shirlener, it is a design I thought appropriate for my Cute friends so I am always giving everyone flowers even if I can't keep up in reality. I haven't stitched it out yet. M
Oh Meganne, you are right, my mistake, so sorry for that. It was about 11.45pm when I wrote that, and I should have been in bed asleep - my brain was obviously already there! Also my mind was thinking about getting up in time for the Dawn Patrol! Thanks for your input with the Ode to Our Fallen. Hugs and a sprig of rosemary for you sweetie.
Thank you for telling us this. I had never heard this before, but will add it to my yearly calendar and also will pray extra hard today for the troups everywhere who sacrifice for our freedom. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:12-14 ;)
Thank you for your prayers jrob sweetie, maybe if enough of us pray for our troops and for world peace and freedom, it just might happen, wouldn't that be wonderful! Hugs and a flower for you, you are special.
I thank you for the info. In Canada we have the same, but we call it Remembrance Day and it is on Nov 11. I will remember you, my Aussie friends, on this special day. I am reminded quite often of this as my brother-in-law is in the army and has travelled much leaving my sister alone with their daughter many times. In Canda we also have what we call "Red Friday" where we wear Red to commemorate/remember those who give their lives for us. I even made a special red scrub top with maple leaves for the fridays I work. *'s4U ><>
We also commemorate Remembrance day Joanie, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month at this time all of Australia observes a 1 minutes silence and it is tradion to wear a red poppy. On ANZAC day we wear a sprig of Rosemary. I hope these commemorative days never fade as we owe so much to men and women who gave, and still are giving, their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today. Lest we Forget, M
Joanie, thanks for sharing with us, and thanks Meg for your explanation, hugs and flowers to you both.
Ruthie, I'm glad Australia actually *celebrates* this veteran's day! Seems like in the USA only people who go to Vet's Day celebrations are old WWII vets, the younger people have forgotten. Even with our involvement in Iraq. My DH was a US Marine, and proud of it. He was laid out in his dress blues. We should never forget that we can sit at our computers and chat in safety because of the sacrifices of all these men & women who have gone before, and who are there now. Freedom is NOT free, it's paid for by those who dare to say "no" to terrorists, dictators, and bullies of any sort. And they do it for us, people they have never met, people who sometimes revile them for what they do. All you Aussie gals, have a blessed and proud ANZAC Day!! And speaking for the USA gals, let us remember that we are not, and have never been 'over there' alone! Love you, Ruthie!
Marji
Marji, you are so right - freedom is NOT free, and we need to remember that. A few years ago Aus was like the US, the young weren't interested, they didn't realise the importance, and we were all asked to encourage them to take an interest - and it worked. Now the young and old march together. Young kids marching with their fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers, some kids wearing medals as a sign of respect and remembrance of departed family members. I've just been watching the news and apparently the young folk just about outnumbered the grown-ups today - all around the country! My DH is involved with an Aviation Museum and he has noticed that the kids that visit now, know much more about the wars than what they did 10 years ago, in fact quite a number of them know more than their parents and teachers. It is so good to see. Makes me feel that there is hope for the younger generation, and that those beautiful people who gave their lives for our wonderful country will never be forgotten.Hugs and a flower and love you too Marji sweetie, you are special.
Yes, we must pray for the safety of all our troops... we're in the end times my friends... and it's only going to get worse unfortunately. And let's not forget to pray for the military families. Especially the young women left alone with small children... having to be Mom and Dad to them. Thanks Ruthie for posting this! I haven't prayed for the troops today... I shall do that right now. Australian, New Zealand, USA and all the global military effort that's fighting this war on terror. xoxo
Thank you Teri, it is so good of you people to support our troops in this way, with love and prayer, it is very much appreciated. Hugs and a flower, you are a sweetie.
Those of us in the US will be thinking of them also. I guess our veteran's day would be compable. There are a lot of men and women in other parts of the world working to strive for peace and safety of many, many people!
Thanks for that, and yes I think it is the same as Veteran's Day, with activities of remembrance all day long. Hugs and a flower clawton sweetie, and here's hoping that one day we'll have world peace and safety.
<<< more >>> It is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. ANZAC stands for *Australian and New Zealand Army Corps*. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as ANZACs, and the pride they soon took in that name endures to this day. These days, ANZAC Day celebrations commemorate all armed forces, and all personnel who fought in all wars. So all you Aussie and Kiwi folks, please remember our troops on this special day, and pray for the safe return of all our troops who are in the war zones at present.
As another Aussie, I too commemorate the sacrifices of those who gave their all for their country, and will be up early for the Dawn service tomorrow. Lest we forget!
