Oh my gosh thanks for the warning. I know my 8GB jump drive went bad & I could not get my designs. I was so upset but my computer guy was able to get them onto another jump drive for me. So I know how you felt as all of my designs were on that jump drive. Now I have purchased another jump drive & have a back up. I download to the one attached to my laptop & every month or so I will update my backup. Now that is something for you to think about. It pays to have a backup. Also good idea to download to your desktop if your computer does not recognize a format.
Wow scary! Recently my computer got fried in a power surge and I lost all my designs, bought and freebies but worst of all, all my digitizing as well. Some I know I will never re-do. Best advise I can give is BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP AND STORE ON EXTERNAL DRIVE OR DISC. My thanx for a great forum of fab people :}
Ooooo Thank you for that information. I would have panicked big time.
We all need an IT expert in the family or invite a 7 year old in to check out the computers.
I know what you mean. my granddaughters changed all the photo on my daughters phone. Freaked her out. Maybe we should go sit bedide them in class. i am sure we would learn something!!!
Wow, I wonder if that is some Windows 7 thing. I have XP, and while I never "open" from the download window, only "save" in my files, whenever I try opening a file of any kind with a wrong program, my computer just laughs at me and tells me it can't do it, it doesn't change file extensions. Eeesh! That must have been scary, glad you had the presence of mind to go back to a restore point. I have a feeling if this laptop ever dies, I won't have one, because the operating systems keep getting more and more 'automatic' and user inoperable (for an old DOS gal). Just my opinion, but you might want to be careful opening files thru explorer instead of saving them, that's a good way to let all kinds of bad bugs into your computer. Have a great day, hugs, Marji
That would set me off on a panic if it happened to me. Glad you got them back.
So glad tht you were able to get your files back. That sounds scary.
If this happens you usually just need to right click on the file and go to properties then change the program that opens it. I found this useful in reverse with my embroidery files because windows does not know what to do with them so I change he open with program in properties so that it knows which software I want to use for that file.
Alice.
When it comes to computers, a little knowledge is a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad thing, epsecially if you don't read the warning texts. LOL!!!
So glad you managed to restore everything.
