Spring here in Australia must be on its way. I have a Magpie warbling just outside my window. I also heard one about 3.30am. Just so beautiful to listen to.

Love it. So glad mine are not like that.
I have a few traps set inside my home. Thought I had seen a mouse. Days went by and thought I must have imagined it. Then the other morning something strange under my table. A mouse must have run past a trap, caught its back leg then dragged it about 3 feet past another trap and caught its other leg. Magpies said thankyou.

Lyn the little blue wrens are in my back yard so spring is not far away. As for the magpies well do I have a story. For three years one magpie had me on the go. Every time I opened my front door (or back door) it was there. At first it only swooped me then sometimes the G'kids. Not hubby or SIL. It was a nightmare to put the washing on the line. I wore a hat with eyes painted on it and carried a long stick to no avail. Eventually I said to hubby its either me or the magpie. Then someone told me about.........(stuff). And strangely enough the magpie disappeared. The guilt lasted about a week. Then it was a pleasure to walk outside my own home. The other magpies still live it the trees in my front yard. I would never put up with that fear again. Marg

Sorry but i had to laugh, eyes in the back of your head maybe? Bluejays are bad here in Texas, they are really pretty but down right mean.

My Magpies never swoop. I have had a mouse problem. They come in through my doggie door when I am out. The Magpies love it as I toss the dead mice from the trap outside. Free feed. I also have two Currawong and sometimes a Kookburra. Have Blue Wren all year around. Have not seen any Red robin this year

Lyn the neighbours used to feed the magpies and then because they were pooping all over the porch they stopped. Then the swooping started. Bev, they say if you look at them they will not swoop, that was the reason for the eyes on the hat. After a while it failed to work. I would have thought it was funny too except it was happening to me. I must have looked like a real fool with these eyes painted on the hat.

My Dog 13 is going blind and is deaf. She spends most of the time inside, but barks when I let her out to the toilet. Guess that is to chase the nasties away. No close neighbours so that is OK.

Sally, Today is beautiful. Blue sky. Still a little cold but the sun being out warms you up. Out temps here next week are the same as Brissie. Have a son in Brisbane.

I've had Magpies out the front and a Currawong or two out the back for the last few years and the variety of birdsong is really nice. They were excited for us that it's such a nice looking *washing* day today -ugh!

Ahhh, Spring. Our spring was cold and rainy. We are now in mid-summer in USA;it's been unusually hot this year. However, the starlings are beginning to flock which is a sure sign autumn is right around the corner.

No longer see Starlings around my home - thankgoodness as they become a pest, just like the blackbirds and sparrows - All imported.

Do the magpies swoop coz in melbourne they do I prefer some of the smaller birds that are less harmful I know that they are protecting their nests but dont like to get my hair parted heheh

The ones in my garden don't, but the ones on the bike & walking trails sure do! Of course we should all be wearing hats to protect against melanomas anyway, so they help to remind us :)

My magpies have been coming here since we came here. Every year they bring their babies so they become used to me. Guess as some die the others take over. The Males are sent away to find other areas.
