at a time and put them on my memory stick to move to the machine, that I have now way to use those gorgeous fonts. That seems like a LOT of work for results that will be less than excellent unless I WANT them to look wonky. Anyway, do I need a special program to use those letters, or is there a technique that I'm missing along the way? I am completely self taught from reading articles, watching videos or trial/error. Being able to add lettering to my projects would open up a whole new world to me with the emb. machine. Thank you for your time and patience!!!

I have a Janome, but in the comment below Bethelb has your machine, and she says it's capable of doing what you need. Perhaps if you put up a message for font help with the Brother, you might get the help you need. Hugs, Marji

Embird is the one I have used for the last 10 years and there are some very good tutorials out there on how to work with fonts and Embird. Well worth the money and updates are free. Do a search for Embird some of the sites offer better prices. *4U good luck

Embird has been my choice from the very beginning. Ea. set of fonts need to be in a seperate folder & you can do that with Embird./Lillian

You might want to try Sew What Pro they have a free 30 day trial or so many saves can't remember how many at this time. It is a little less expensive that some others but you need to try several before buying. Goo Luck. If you do decide to get Sew What go ahead and get the Sew What Pro Version.

Free is well worth looking at. I agree with the "try several before buying" part, because you don't want to waste your money. Good comment.

You need at least a customising program to line them up nicely, otherwise it's marking and hooping well, just like any other design. Embird Basic or 5D Embroidery (or 5D Embroidery Extra - which does some autodigitising as well) are examples of custonising programmes. Try Enbirds free download, like Eva said, it works well - you won't be able to save the combinations you make in the free trial, but it gives you an idea of what the programme is capable of.

Every letter file is a single design file, and for the machine it is no difference if you choose a clown, butterfly or an "E".
I'm afraid it will be the hooping hell to get those single desings lined up... even "Eva" was difficult ;-)
So I decided for a powerful software program named Embird, which allows you to merge and line up embroidery files on the computer before sending it to the machine, you create a single new file with your combined letters (or other) embroidery files.
You will love it. It is affordable, they offer a free trial and you can add some more modules, one I like best (beside the very useful Iconizer) is "Font Engine", which creates embroidery files from computer fonts. (Not all are looking good when ready, you will have to experiment). There are other brands of software available which can do the same, but Embrid really is comfortable and has good material for self-study (and does much more than just merging files).
Maybe you want to have a look:

Do you happen to have any sort of Design Program for your PC - that works with your designs?

If you do - you can bring your fonts - one at a time into the editing feature and combine them into one design and save that and then download it on your USB and your machine.

I have no PC programs other than "My Editor" which allows me to look at the file, but not much else...unless I need lessons in that as well. But that is totally possible.

By the way, I went through my instruction book prior to asking. It only gave info for using the 13 pre-installed fonts.

Could you not use the same instructions just getting the letters from the USB stick? What kind of a machine do you have?

I have a Brother Innovis Duetta 4500D. The pre-installed fonts are saved in a separate section of the machine from other designs; I've been unable to figure out how to change which fonts are there. I would like to mix some designs with pictures for an in-the-works project.
