Great answers on the velvet. Don't forget that silk also will be crushed by the hoop. The hoop will break the silk fibers and leaves a permanent hoop mark that no ironing can remove.
Thanks, silk is another fabric I've never tried but who knows what's next in my sewing adventure? *
Thanks for asking this question! Great information in the answers, so thanks to all the responders!!;>)*for all!
You're welcome! It's great to have so many ladies out there with the answers at their finger tips, isn't it? *
Looks like you have your answer - I would have told you not to hoop your velvet - pin or baste stitch on tear away - use WSS topping and to pin.
Great question, great answers, this one is getting a little red check mark so I can find it again when I need to! That's what I love about Cute, if you want to do it, somebody's done it before you and has great experience to share. Y'all are great! Hugs, Marji
Can you explain the "little red check mark" please? Sounds like something else I need to know. *
I did a some a few yrs ago I was lining them so I put a fusible interface on them then used a tearaway pinned to stabilizer rather than hooping used a WSS on top, the pic is of one completed.
WOW!!! Wish I could do the large letters too. Your stocking looks great. *
OK here's what I've learned, needless to say never ever hoop your velvet it'll leave a mark. I don't like the sticky backed and the spray glue gunks up my machine so I hoop my stablizer, then use my basting stitch to hold the velvet in place, then I 'float' a piece of the plastic wss on top. When it's done you can just pull the stablizer away and not spoil your velvet. Also unless it's a velvet made to be washed I wouldn't try that if I were you.. Good luck......
My, what a quick response, thanks. Never thought of basting the fabric so I'll give it a go. *
go to the emblibrary for the techniques and there is a velvet tutorial there.
Thanks. I'm using their designs but I always forget their tutorial page. *
