Loosie, you can't use just any artwork you can "save picture as", because they are copyright works. That includes pictures off the internet, coloring books, wrapping paper, christmas cards, everything. Now, if you purchased an image from Shutterstock, I suspect you could digitize it. You'd have to check with them to see if it could be changed. Read terms and conditions, always. There are several good websites for clipart, including Clipartopolis, Clipartoon, DigiDoodles, Diddybag, and many more. They offer some free clipart, and encourage you to use it for digitizing. If you purchase clipart, you can certainly digitize it. If you look thru these clipart sites, you'll recognize some that have been turned into embroidery designs, no problem. The point is, when somebody produces a piece of art, they own it. They can sell it to you to use in your brochure, your slideshow, your digitizing: but they are giving that permission. You cannot take things without permission, change them, then digitize them. Well, you can, but it's illegal, immoral and unethical: it's stealing. You can draw your own designs from scratch, or start by using some of the free clipart that's out there. I've purchased some neat artwork for digitizing for very little money. And I've gotten some super nice free stuff from Clipartopolis and Clipartoon. I admire your trying to learn digitizing, and I would offer to be as much help as I can. I have worked in advertising and PR; and I've dealt with copyright issues, as has Meganne, and ScienceWidow. I can tell you copyright is no joke. I understand that you are asking because you don't know, so I'm trying to be a teacher, and get you started off on the right path. I'm adding some clipart sites for you. Best of luck to you, hugs, Marji
To all the cuties, this design will not be available for digitizing, I don't wish to get anyone into trouble, I will work on something for the ladies that are interested, I got an itch that I have to scratch...lol
