To restore a closed tab, try hitting control/shift/t together. It SHOULD restore your closed tab(s). If you close a few, you might be able to restore a few, depending on your computer settings. Sometimes I close something, and just as it is closing, I realize that I wasn't finished with it, or forgot to save something, etc.

IF this does not work for you, you can install an add-on to Firefox, my favorite browser. It is called Tab Mix Plus. Right now it is free, but there is a "suggested contribution", so eventually it is going to cost us. Anyway, recently I posted a mini tutorial to opening tabs. Now you can restore them. I hope this helps someone. Look below for the Firefox add-on Tab Mix Plus for those interested.

I love ctrl+shift+T - I use it all the time....
I have used firefox for ages now, and with the exception of a couple of sites, Eddies for example which I have to go back to explorer for, it is great, and doesn't give me any of the headaches the other browsers I've used did.

Just a question: if I were to get Firefox, which one would I donwload? I have Windows XP, and I know I can't have the newest Internet Explorer (nor do I want it!) because my computer doesn't even DO what these things have a bug fix for. I don't want an icon for everything including wiping my nose. I don't want to see what my "friends" are doing on Facebook, or consult them about where I should have dinner. I just want a simple browser that is sleek, doesn't open too many things at once, loads pages fast, and a way to watch a 1 minute you tube video without waiting 5 minutes for it to buffer. Any suggestions? I hate this technology, by the way, and having to re-learn stuff every 5 minutes because some whiz kid invents a new way of playing with my computer. Thanks for the information, I'm going to try the Control/Shift thing. Senility strikes--I mean to hit the minus sign, I hit the x. Hugs, Marji

If you were to get Firefox, you go to the Mozilla site that I posted and download Firefox from there. Tab Mix Plus is an add-on. There are lots of those. You do not NEED any of them, but some are nice. I LOVE Firefox. It does what you just described, and doesn't come with a bunch of baggage. Good luck.

I totally agree with Marji. I also only have XP. I know there are many ways to do all sorts of things but I prefer the ones I know. Does not stop me trying new things.....LOL

OH my, do you really like doing things the hard way?

All browsers have a Closed Tab Restore option, you just need to know where to find it.

If using Firefox you only need to go to History, scroll down to Recently Closed Tabs or Recently Closed Windows.

If Using Internet Explorer click on the NEW TAB button, when the page opens it will display REOPEN CLOSED TABS on the top left of the page, click on the link and the page links will all appear underneath the question.

If using Opera you will see a little rubbish bin on the right side of the Tabs bar, just click on the bin and it will show all the tabs you have closed.

They also have a RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION option.

Opera does it automatically,
Firefox you choose History: then Restore Previous Session
and IE you choose TOOLS, Reopen Last Browsing Session

Please don't pay for addon's, or install any addon's that aren't absolutely necessary because they will slow down your browser.

Hugs n roses, Meganne

Restore tabs through history does not always work. I know. My computer rebooted itself last week and I lost everything that I had been working on. This was just a simple command that opens the last tab that was up quickly and easily with one command. Everyone has their own way of navigating their computer, and most of our computers have glitches. It was just a suggestion for anyone who might be interested.

I'm sorry you misheard what I wrote and obviously took it the wrong way also.

You don't restore tabs THROUGH history, the restore tabs option is simply ACCESSED via the History HEADING on the menu bar. They could just as easily have situated it under the Tools or Edit or View headings, but they didn't.
I suppose they thought people would more easily think of it as history.

If your pc crashes while you are using Firefox it SHOULD restore using the Restore Previous SESSION not the Recently Closed Tabs.

These options have only been available in the most recent version of Firefox, prior to that you had to set it up (to restore your previous session) through Options, then it would do it automatically, sometimes with disastrous results if you had stumbled onto a bad site, because it would keep restoring it every time you re-opened Firefox.

Keyboard short-cuts are the most difficult things for us oldies to remember, because there are so many of them and if someone were to forget what the keys were and started selecting different key combinations, trying to remember, they could find themselves in all sorts of trouble.
As a Microsoft Sales Partner and telephone support, I was told that it is always best to show people where the command resides, it is far safer to open the menus if the memory fails.

Where computers are concerned, "A LITTLE knowledge is a dangerous thing."

With the best of intentions, Meganne

Thank you for your tip. I'll try it next time I accidently close a tab I didn't mean to.

Well, I cannot post a link because it is a secure site. But if you do a search for Tab Mix Plus. Or go to the link below and then search from there to be sure to get the right thing. Sorry, I guess I cannot post secure links here.
