I am always amazed at the difference in info provided to consumers from dealers! I own a Viking Diamond (tol when I got it) and have always used prewound L bobbins. Never asked the dealer, just ordered them. I have gone through 3 orders of 100 each, and just recently my machine had to have a new transformer. It was covered under warranty and dealer (in new area, not the one I purchased from) never asked me what kind of needle, bobbin, thread I used...just fixed it at no charge! Machine is now 6 years old! Go for the prewound, easy peasy to use, toss the used empty case (can't be rewound on the Viking..you can use a bobbin winder but it can be too much thread or too tight) and go on and enjoy your hobby! When Husqvarna/Viking came out with the Designer 1 machine they then starter to recommend using Nebs L sized pre wound bobbins.
Every newer model of machine that has a top load bobbin that they put out since the D1 should be able to use the L Sized pre wound bobbins.

I use Nebs and other name brand L sized bobbins in my Designer 1 with out a problem.

The only thing to watch for is that some have more thread on them than others do.
If they have more than 131 yards of thread on them you may have to pull a bit of thread off them so they turn easily in the bobbin case.

Hi DeVon, I cannot answer your question but I have recently changed to prewound for my old Bernina. I am absolutely thrilled with the result. I realise that with the prewound they are tightly wound - much more than I can do myself. I have always had trouble when doing fonts with the bobbin thread coming to the surface. With prewound there is no trouble at all.

I noticed you have a Husqvarna machine, I have a Ruby. My dealer tells me never to use prewound bobbins, is that what you are looking for and have any other cuties been told never to use prewound in their machines, just wondering because my dealer was really insistant on this point.
Thank
Michelle

It must be a difference in areas, for our Viking dealer started all of us on the prewound bobbins. I know that you need to buy the bobbins to wind your own from Viking, for I tried mutliple times to try to save some money, only to have to send them all back. I know that all of our sit and sew group (well, one does not) has Viking machines, and we all use prewound bobbins.

I have a D1 and use prewound L for it, I purchased mine from metro and have not had a single problem with them, in fact I use to have all kinds of trouble when I was winding my own, they would wind to tight or crooked, was so happy to use prewound.

My dealer has been sold them to me but at 75 cents each, I was thinking of buy from Metro. thanks

It must be a question of dealers than because she even went so far as to say I could ruin my machine and that the warrenty would be invalid. Scarey isn't it?.

As far as I know most of the newer H/V machines take the L sized pre wound bobbins.
My Designer 1 takes L size.
