I think bethelb has the answer. It's PayPal. I went & checked my account with the card & could see what sites I used it on. I did all the correct things before trying to use it & have used it at Artistic Thread Works & several others. Sorry PayPal had trouble, but I still think they can decline cards that don't have enough money on them & give folks a better feeling about PalPay. I never wanted an account with them as I kept hearing about them being hacked, so now I know I don't. Sorry they had trouble with VISA, but that's the way it is I guess. Tks. for your input!
I have same problem. My bank uses the visa debit . And lots of sites are blocked by the visa company they use . Ive called bank and they say they wont back down so , I have tried to use the preload ones too. No go if from Visa . I did a search and the Pay Pal has had a problem with certain Visa cards for ages .
I use Visa gift cards online all of the time, but I always call the number in the folder that comes with the Card to register the card for online use.( the number would be the bank that you purchase the card. ) Hope this helps. Nancy
I agree I think it might be the problem. I know that I had to register my card at my bank and then get an sms with a code if I use it online and if the particular site has the security verification.
It depends on how the gift cards are programmed by their provided how they work with different sites. I have a low line regular credit card that I use just for the internet. I use it directly with some sites and have it tied to my paypal account too (comes in handy for sites that only take paypay). I do it this way for the protection of using a credit card (gives you options of there are issues) but having the line small in case something happens in cyberspace (although the credit card company stands behind it - still a hassle if something happens and this way it is not my "primary" card with issues). I pay it off every month so I don't have the interest charges and it does not have an annual fee either.
Some Visa gift cards can only be used in the usa.

I though that was it, but then it was also declined by Misty Mountain which is in KY!
i had the same problem, the trouble is the verification process includes your name since the name isn't on the gift card it gets rejected ( this is only my take on it I may be wrong) I have a low end card for the internet which is used through PAYpal now just because of this dilemma.
I have used a Visa gift card without any problems at Metroemb and Emblibrary. I just used it as a credit card and it went thru just fine. I prefer paypal but sure wasn't going to turn down a $50.00 gift card! Hugs...Carol
I use my debit card online all the time. I do enjoy putting money into my PayPal account - that is my budget control - so the sites that take PayPal are a welcome site for me.
I am not sure what the issue is with the site that you are speaking of - however. I have never seen one - that allows you to use your credit card - that pushes you to have a PayPal account instead.
the gift cards do not work online. I think it is because they cannot tie them to an account for verification.
Tks. If it's a straight purchase from a site NOT thru PayPal, then I can use it. Otherwise, they reject it. I think that's sorta stupid as it's an already paid for card!! They HAVE to get their money! I have used it at emb library, so guess I'll just stick with them.
Oh. The gift card is a VISA card that can be checked as it has all the numbers, etc that any credit card has. In fact, I go online to check out how much is left on it all the time. Even has that safty control 3 diget number on the back. With all that info, anyone can go check it.
