I saw the same post, I'm always eager to help someone in need, I'll be more observant next time. Thank you!
Tks, Veronika, for removing the post. But ttt with this so others will be sure & read & be aware. Tks Marji for bringing it to our attention. Never can be too careful!
Veronika has removed the post in question, but still, please remember to be aware of what you are seeing and responding to. The internet is not automaatically a safe place. Hugs to all, Marji
Thanks for the warning and explanation-good to have reminders now and then.
I sure hope no one clicked on that link. And Was very glad there was a vigilant cute who noticed it was a very old post! I've seen some old posts pop up lately, but usually not links have been added. Like the one for the weight loss challege from 2009. Oops If you want to renew that kind of challenge open a new topic. Don't revive an old one.
Unless you are super vigilant, it is very easy to NOT see the date and just answer. And also, apparently this site (Cute) generates enough traffic that it comes to the head of the class with searches, so it is going to be more of a target. Sad but true. Thanks for the cautious note.
Thanks Marji.
There was another one doing it with links to a medical site, on some of MY old posts.
I reported it straight to Miss V and she removed the person immediately.
We all need to be vigilant.
hugs n roses, Meganne
For the 'second shift' Cuties, this is really important. Thanks, Marji
Please keep this part of the message close to the top. I just opened a post asking for help on a German translation which was answered a few hours ago, apparently. Ansalu noticed that the post was originally made in 2010, a very old post, and requested that no one else respond, because of the age of the post. I went looking to see who had brought it forward after more than a year, and became suspicious, and thought I'd better warn everybody. The person "answering" the post gave a link to a translation service, because the original post was about using babelfish translation. Ok, but now here's the kicker. This person just joined the forum to answer this post, gives no location or other information, was answering an old post without realizing it, and is hoping someone will click on this link he/she provided. I had my MacAfee check the link, and it has apparently not been around long enough to even get a rating one way or another from MacAfee. It is also a .NET link. Please, please be careful when you see this kind of thing. The forum here at Cute can be read and accessed by ANYBODY!!!! There are people who prowl forums with search engines, and this person was searching for the word "translation". That is what the link given in the answer appears to point to, and they are hoping to get some clicks on this link. That's exactly why they joined Cute, to make this post and get some clicks. It may or may not be a safe site, and it may or may not be a translation site. Please be aware of when original posts were made, you can look at the date I have circled at the top of the photo. If you see an answer to an old post with a very new answer to it providing a link, please be cautious!!! There's no reason to bring up old posts. Sometimes it's ignorance, a new member may not know how far back they're going, I've seen that happen. But when they join just to provide a link, don't click it, please. I would never trust it without a lot of checking. Please look at the photo, and please be careful!!!! Hugs, Marji
Wow! Thank you for sharing your discovery with us! Everyone needs to be more aware of what they are "clicking". Hugs..Carol
That's why I was so distrustful to Agula and her weird posts with nothing in it than just the link to that polish website.
Always on the watch...
Greetings and thank you
Bettina
Missed the post so not sure of the link but i have used babelfish for over 2 years now with out any problems but still no guarantee that this link even took you to Babelfish to begin with.
My daughter was approached on facebook with a link telling her she could make .60 for every email address she could send them so you can just imagine how many that could end up being on Facebook! we're talking 100's of dollars ! These guys mean business beware!
