I had a response made and got a clitch and lost it when I submitted the response. So this one will be shorted. I love my 4D Extra, which is the version closest to the 3D Studio. It has a great feature that you can actually see what the fonts and etc. look like before you apply it to the design. Go to the Viking web site and do a comparison. My dealer said that if you want to do serious dititzing go with the professional version--but it was too expensive for me.
If you go to the Husqvarna site, you can see tutorials for 4D. I just did and I noticed a number of simplifications which makes 4D more consumer friendly (not too important if you are used to 3D) but that answers your last question. But it is also more versatile and with new things added. Upgrade from 3D is about €600, a lot of money that's why I did not buy it, but having seen a few tutorials I am seriously thinking of upgrading.
I have the 4D Embroidery and it doesn't seem to be to difficult to use. I don't think there are many differences between 3D and 4D it's just newer. But I do know that you'll still have access to your 3D after you install 4D and your cross stitcher will work just fine. So far I've been able to resize, reformat, change colors, create picture letter combos. You will have access to all the fonts you have in your computer plus the ones in the software so that's nice. I'm still learning mine since I've only had my Designer 1 a few months, but love it already. Good luck
Does the 4D have a cross stitcher in it? My Mother wants me to purchase this today, for her.
no - it's a seperate program usually runs about $150 u.s. altho you can stitch cross stitch you download from the internet you just can't create your own.
