Yes, we felt it also in Mt. Airy, Maryland. It was an eerie feeling to have the whole house vibrating. We had some small objects fall off of shelves. I stood there watching everything around me shake. Just hope everyone that was closer to Mineral, Va was safe. It certainly is not a common thing here on the east coast. That was strange to have one in California and here so close together in time.
Special hugs from South Africa for all who felt the earthquake I havent seen much on the news so I hope there isn't a lot of damage other than frazzled nerves
Felt it good here in Williamsburg, freaked me out, my first and hopefully last. Now waiting for Irene the Hurricane, will never get my machine back from Richmond like this :(
Hope all are ok
It has been so good to hear from so many of our cuties affected by the rattling of these quakes we had here on the East Coast and the Colorado areas of the USA today. With only relatively minor damage reported must say how grateful I am.
I sure did feel it! I had just booted the laptop and was waiting for everything to load, when the couch started to try to wiggle out from under me! It lasted long enough for me to think maybe the dog was up against the couch biting a flea and bumping the couch really hard, but then I saw his face looking in at me from the porch and barking, very worried. Then I looked at the ceilling fan, and the fan pulls were swaying like crazy, even though the fan wasn't on. And my hanging tealite holders were dancing, too. "It's a stinkin' earthquake!" says I. We're on a fault line here in NWPA up by Lake Erie. It's 100 miles or so from here to Niagara Falls, the Niagara Escarpment makes the Falls, is the fault line. So we get little tiny rumbles here a lot, but most people don't notice. I noticed this one, for sure. No damage, but just so odd for it to last so long. So I jumped up and called Debbie, just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, and she hadn't felt it. I called the TV station, and the newsroom answered the phone, "Yes, it was an earthquake", hee hee hee. Guess I wasn't the only one that called, ya think? Be safe everybody, I, too lived in SoCal, and it was a fun ride. Hugs, Marji
I hope everyone is safe and there was little damage.
I guess that explains why I haven't heard from the Webinar group, this morning, I do hope they are all right.
sending prayers for all. Meganne
I didn't feel it but MarjiAlexa did and we only live a few miles apart in Northwest Pa.
we live in the eastern mountains of WV,just a few miles fromVa. state line. it bothered my dog more than it did me. God's way of letting us know He is still in control.
we need a shaking up once in a while.
I was in the doctors today in High Point NC and he was with me when it happened. I don't care to feel that again. But we are okay. DeVon
We did ! We live in Rhode island. Nothing bad no broken dishes just rumbles. Suzanne
Wow -- this is the first I heard of it. We didn't feel anything, but I wonder if that's why we had a power outage.
Canton Ohio and didn't feel it but friends in Akron Ohio did.
I live in Richmond, VA. just about 40 miles south of Mineral. There was a whole lota shaken going on! It certainly frightened us!
Anita, I heard from a few friends in your area - that said that they felt it - but that all were ok.
WOW Just got back from hospital a couple of hours ago and having pizza and rootbeer for lunch with
CNN on the news talking about Libya but didn't know about the earthquake. I have relatives in Colorado and New Jersey BIL and he works in NYC- Wonder if they felt anything.
That's a preety good jolt that can knock cans off the shelf but if the building is sturdy shouldn't
have damage but sure is scary when your not used to it.
I live in Southern California so I'm used to earthquakes but we still jump and we tie down stuff
Ahh its on CNN now
Hope all your nerves are okay.
Hugs,
Linda
Copied this from CNN news. Guess it was reported at 5.9 and felt up into Canada.
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 struck near Washington, D.C., the U.S.Geological Survey said.
The epicenter was in Mineral, Virginia. Did you feel it? Send CNN an iReport.
"It's one of the largest that we've had there," said U.S. Geological Survey seismologist Lucy Jones.
Aftershocks were a concern, she said. "People should be expecting (them), especially over the next hour or two," she added.
The quake was felt in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York City and on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, where President Barack Obama is vacationing. Cell phone service has been disrupted in New York City part of which has been evacuated.
Traders in the New York Stock Exchange felt the shaking and shouted to each other, "Keep trading!" CNN's business correspondent Alison Kosik reported from the floor at 2:20 p.m. E.T.
"Everybody was told to take the stairs," Wolf Blitzer said, speaking live at 2 p.m. E.T. from CNN's D.C. bureau.
The Pentagon has been evacuated, CNN's Barbara Starr reports. "When the building began shaking rather violently, hundreds of people began streaming out," she said, because many people thought that the building was under attack. Starr was standing in the Pentagon's press office when the roof started to shake.
Twitter traffic suggests the quake was felt all over the East Coast.
In Philadelphia, HunterPence3 tweeted, "Wow Earthquake just shook the entire locker room!"
In Cleveland, "tribeinsider" wrote "I'm no expert but i think we just had an earthquake here."
And even in Toronto, Canada, tweets said that the shaking could be felt for minutes.
It was felt in Colorado Springs. Can't believe it!
That was an earlier earthquake ~ copied this for you: Midnight Colorado Earthquake Startles Residents, Damages Few Homes.A midnight Colorado earthquake, the strongest to hit the state since 1973, woke startled resident on Monday night.

The U.S. Geological Survey revealed that Trinidad, Colorado; Raton, New Mexico; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and La Junta, Colorado were among the most impacted region.
The earthquake, though severe by Colorado standards, did not cause any major destruction or injuries save for some minor structural damage at homes near the epicenter and minor damages to highways nearby.
It did, however, disrupt Colorado residents, many of whom called or checked online to find out what was happening.
I felt it in PA. My table and chairs were shaking and my husband was in his recliner and said that he thought he had a rocking chair!!. I used to live in Calif so I knew exactly what was happening. My neighbor called me all excited and said is your house shaking?
I'm 20 miles from DC and 90 miles from the epicenter. It scared the **** outta me. I had flashbacks to that awful day 10 years ago :(
That must have been a bit unsettling.
News so far are not reporting major troubles as a result. Lets hope that luck holds.
As long as no one is hurt, enjoy the ride.
Sewmom in California (I grew up with earthquakes.)
Different intensities in parts of NJ. Here at work, I thought my friend was behind me pushing my chair til I turned around and saw no one. She thought I was pushing Her!
I did!! I used to live in southern California where earthquakes are more of a regular occurance, so I knew exactly what was happening. Made me stop everything and take notice though, since we don't experience them in the east very often. Now the phone circuits are all overloaded. Can't get a call out anywhere. Oh well, at least my electricity is still on!
Didn't have the news on, but hope all are ok up that way.
