Here is a link for "Setting Up Your PayPal Account and Profile - For Dummies". This might give you an idea of steps involved in getting an account set up. Sort of like knowing what the unknowns are before you consider possibly doing it.
I agree with all those in favor of PayPal. Had it for close to 10 years. No problems. Most of my purchase have been for fabric, embroidery designs, books, and other small items. The transactions are easy and now you get a monthly statement through an email. LUV it...
That is my problem also. I had pay pal and got ripped off or the people tried to anyways and I caught it. I will not use it again. I feel bad as I loce Yoriko's designs.
I have a paypal account and have had for many yrs, I set up a bank account just to use for on line shopping and that is the one i linked to paypal. I trasfer money into it when I am making a purchase online other than that there is no money in that account so good luck to anyone who ever tries to use it LOL this has worked for me for yrs now so I feel totally safe.
I use pay pal. I prefer it over a card. Once someone compromised my account and they caught it immediately, because it was not my normal location.I changed my password and have had no more problems. Kay
I've never had a problem with PayPal, and it's so darn easy. I have it tied to a bank account that belongs exclusively to purchases thru PayPal, so I don't have to worry about compromising any of my "real" bank accounts. I transfer money into that account, then pay thru PayPal. Nobody can get money out that isn't in there, and PayPal is safe as far as I am concerned, have had an account for years & years with no problem. If I were a merchant, I'd take PayPal exclusively, too. If you take credit cards, you have to go thru so much hassle with the banks, you have to have a "business" account which costs over $100/mo in fees, often you don't get paid your money for 20 or 30 days, even though the customer gets charged right away, and they skim their 4-7% fee right off the top! Small businesses like Yoriko's can't AFFORD to take credit cards except thru PayPal. Might as well just give the designs away. Millions of PayPal transactions happen every day perfectly securely and without a hitch. And, you can use your credit card thru PayPal without signing up for a PayPal account. Go for it. Hugs, Marji
I agree about that PayPal. I had problems with them in the past. They will not scam me again. I will not order from anyone that does not give me other options to pay. H&*
I think Pay Pal and Bill Me Later are the best things to happen since chocolate ice cream! I don't ever use a credit card to buy online. Pay Pal has no hidden charges that I have ever found. If it doesn't take Pay Pal I go to a different site to buy. I pay full amount when I get the bill just like a credit card.
I don't buy anything online unless I can use my paypal account. I don't like giving my card numbers to someone online or over the phone that I don't know. If they don't accept paypal, they don't need my business.
As a business, I only accept payment for my online sales with paypal.
I have never had a problem with my PayPal account. I have it tied to a small limit credit card that I only use for paypay and other internet things. I pay the balance off each month so I don't have interest charges either. PayPal can help if you have issues with where ever you use it and so can the credit card company (you can dispute the charges and they credit your account and charge the seller). There are no fees to you to use PayPal. Also PayPal is the only one with your credit card number - the merchant never gets it - PayPal just sends them the money. I think it is a very safe, and easy, way to pay for things.
I agree with everything pcteddyb said. I too resisted, until my daughter, who is an asst. mgr of a bank, told me this is the safest way to buy online.
Linda, I buy most of my designs with PayPal and never have had a problem. Go for it..... Sarah.
thanks Sarah-I think I am going to go for it-if for nothing else, then just for my embroidery "must haves"..(but don't really need) LOL
Linda my dear, hope this informations give you a lift and you give paypal a chance :o)
Long time I also did not want to make an account cause I heard bad stuff but I think mots of that are rumors (maybe from the big CCards-sellers?).
I have no own income and so here in Germany I have no chance for a creditcard. That was a long time my problem with emblibrary: I had to ask my hubby for his or he sells my giftcertifications so I could shop there without nagging to him for his card. What a happy day (for me and also for them - I'm a so called "frequent shopper" *lol*) when they accepted paypal.
The fees pays the seller not the customer :o)
Greetings, Bettina
PS: In Germany we have no more paper-Eurocheque since 2002 ;o)
I have had a paypal account for many many years and never had a problem. I have had a couple of occasions when I did not receive something and paypal was there ready to refund my money. Also, those of you who write checks I hope you do not carry it in your purse when you go out. You are the most vulnerable should you ever loose it. There is way too much information on your check or that can be obtained with your checking info to give you any sense of protection if it is lost or stolen. The best thing to do is carry 1 credit card with you and leave the purse at home. When you get home pay the credit card off for any purchases you made and it is the same as paying cash but with so much more protection. I am also amazed at the number of people who carry their social security card in their purse or wallet. This is the biggest never ever ever do this. Hope I was not too preachy but better safe than sorry.
guess I'll take my chances, as far as carrying a purse around-I don't buy one to leave it at home and yes-my checkbook goes with me. As for taking 1 credit card with me-I can't tell you how many times I have stood in line at a grocery store or department store behind someone who, using only plastic-had their card rejected or the machines won't read them for some reason-had to leave their purchases-while everyone watches them in embarrassment over the fact that they can't pay. To each his own I guess. I do however, think I am going to give in and get a paypal account set up.
I have had a paypal acct for yrs as I use to sell on eBay & you had to have an acct. I let mine sit empty & dormant for a couple of yrs & just recently decided I wanted to use it again....I have never had any problem with paypal & there has never been any hidden fees. It is easy to open & use & there are so may places that accept paypal now as they get instant payment whereas a credit card they get charged a fee & some of the companies that let you use a credit card charges you a hidden fee. One of these places is Design By Sick. I know because before I started using my paypal acct again I purchased a couple of packs of designs on sale & there was that extra charge on my credit card for using it. So now I am back to my paypal acct. Give paypal a try you may be surprised & also it is secure & if you don't like it you can always transer any funds you have in it back to your checking acct & close the paypal acct.
you have lots of good positive replies Linda. I set up a PayPal, then discovered that I didn't need to, to be able to use the Credit Card through PayPal. Just as good.
Linda, I have used paypal since the beginning of their existance and never, never, never had a problem. About 9-10 years ago they stepped in and helped us with a dishonest ebay person. They were wonderful. I usually have a msg in my email in just a few minutes after using them. I am one that totally trusts paypal. Hugs..Carol
I agree Linda I also use paypal & use to sell on eBay & you are so right about them helping you when you have a problem with an eBay seller.
I don't have a paypal account either. Every time I start to do so, I read something about the possibility of X number of acounts having been compromised. True? I don't know. But I have been told to get a second card to use with the Internet only. Be sure it's one with no fee! I want to protect the one we use to have bills paid automatically. Just a thought. But so far I've only gotten VISA gift cards...which not all sites will take. Sadly, I don't buy, HOWEVER it has helped me control impluse buying!! :-)
gerryb if you are an impulsive buyer you had better not ever get a paypal acct as it it just way to easy to buy when you have paypal. Paypal is very safe. Most people forget to go & delete all their browsing history after they have done banking or what ever on the Internet. That is a very important thing to do every night before you shut down you computer.
SMAK-ok ok- I did some checking around with some of the ney-sayers on paypal-turns out they had problems with the selling of items-I guess with ebay and the likes. I wouldn't be doing any of that stuff anyway so my daughter has convinced me that I should do it-
As for the credit cards-knock on wood-we haven't had any issues with ours-but then we aren't plastic junkies either-I still like to use "cash" whenever possible and I still like writing-yes writing-out checks to pay bills, regardless of what anyone says. Thanks for the feedback ladies
Me too & I also have the old fashion bank book which also uses a lot less paper & fits into my purse. If the bank is closed & I can't get the money out, it is saved.
I am the same way I still make my bills out by check. There are only 2 bills I pay on line & as soon as I do I go & delete my browsing history. Here is a bit of news about debit or credit cards. I recently got a call from my Credit Union asking me if I had just been to Michigan & I said no I did not know anyone there & had never been there. She told me my debit card had been used in a town in Michigan for $20.01 & it caught the eye of a very sharp person in the CU as they knew I travel very little & have never used my card in that state. I was told that if I use my debit or credit card in the gas station, grocery store, on line, etc there is a possibility someone could get the number. Or else get this the crooks out ther have machines to make up cards & they know that all Visa's start with 44 so they play around with numbers until they hit on a number that is valid & they make up a card using that number with their name & they purchase a small amount to see if it goes through un-noticed. If it does than that is when they use it for larger items. Well my card got cancelled right away & they did not pay or honor that purchase in Michigan so I hope who evers name was on it got caught & punished. I hope this is some good advise for you & others. It sure opened my eyes. Also the CU told me to never give anyone my card to pay for anything & never let it out of my sight. Oh also check all cards you carry & on the back look for the radio waves (((( like this. There is a machine that can scan these cards from your wallet in you pocket or in you purse or backpack. Call the card that sent them out & ask for new cards with out the waves.
I ONLY use paypal when ordering over the net. There are no fees to the buyer--the seller pays for the service. You can set up Paypal so it uses your credit card or any checking account that you want to use. I've been using it for years, and have never had a problem.
I've used Pay Pal for over 5 years. I have NEVER had a problem Had a dispute with a vendor and my money was returned right away. I've never had a fee. Might on vendors side but don't know that. Its safe and you have options on how to pay. CC or from your account. Works great for me. I've had my CC copied on other sites but never through pay pal. I would open an account. Easy and safer then direct CC payments. Just my experience.
Reidfabric vendor/sellers do pay a small fee to paypal. I know I use to sell on eBay. The good thing for the seller is they get their money instantly into their acct from paypal whereas a credit card is not instant plus the fee charged to the seller is I believe higher.
I am very leary of giving out my credit card # so I opened a paypal account three yrs ago. I use it all the time, it is so easy and I haven't had one problem with it. I ususally only buy small am'ts but when I was on vacation I saw something I wanted on line for $1500. on ebay. I used the paypal without a hitch. I think it is great. They are the only ones with my information. My hubby even used it the other day to order a tool. THere is no fee for using. Hope this helps.
Linda, you can use your credit card with paypal if you don't want to get a paypal account, I have heard some bad things about paypal but I don't really believe them. I have used paypal for years because it is way safer than a credit card for online purchases. The fees are for the merchant not the shopper. I have had unauthorized charges on my credit card, but never on my paypal account. I also only use paypal for my website because I am yet to find anything as reliable.
Alice.
I only use pay pal since i got unto this computer .I never took typeing or anything in school and i am happy to say in my almost (Feb) 3 years here no problems .So go for it Lindee hugs carolyn
Way to go girl. Us old gals are still learning every day. Who ever said an old dog can't learn new tricks? LOL
