I have enjoyed reading about your parrots and every one elses experiences too.
Since Vicki, aka BasketKase asked! Here are Pop, Snap and Crackle enjoying a little parrot watching, what we call Kittytainment. They were much younger and lighter then! You can barely see Janey, you have to look for her red tail.
I had my African Grey (Joey) for about 30 years. After retiring my daughter took Joey over. When she had her twins, the little boy suffered with his lungs and we were advised to 'get rid' of Joey. This was terribly upsetting to us all. My daughter found a 'retirement home' for birds and we hear that Joey has settled well in his new home - chatting like mad. They make wonderful pets. Love your new avatar. Sarah.
Hi Sarah, The whole reason we acquired Mac was because of allergies. The lady who had him for his first ten years had a baby and the baby was allergic. She doesn't know we have him and how incredibly spoiled, loved, and what a good life he has now. I wish I could let her know some way! Whenever you get to missing Joey, just remember how much time it takes to clean the cage!
Thirty years is a long, long time to love a bird and then have to give him up. You probably knew what each of his own birdy sounds meant. Mac has his own sound for thank you, and water and lots of little things.
You have made me quite sad thinking about Joey. He did not say a huge amount but he was a real character. Unfortunately he was quite vicious. Oh, how we love our pets.
I have a Temneh named Candy. Was told it was a female when I bought her about 15 yrs. ago. She calles me Gran-Ma-Ma, meows like the cat, beeps like the microwave. She says "I love you" and several other things. I don't spend enough time with her because of my health, but I can't part with her because I worry someone else might not love her as much as I do.
Aren't Timneh's especially charming? Does she like for you to rub her feathers on the top of her head? Mac almost fell asleep when I did that tonight. He hates to go back into his cage tonight. I think he would spend all day on my shoulder, if I'd let him! Mac makes all the microwave sounds too!
They're beautiful! Someone I used to work with had parrots. Her and her husband had several. One was an African grey and I don't remember what the rest were.
How awesome, Jan.....Don't you kitties find them "fun"??????
We call it Kittytainment! They learned at a very young age about "The Beak!" I'll post a photo!

My sister's boss has a bird in the office and the employee's has to be careful what they say about their boss. The bird will repeat in that employees voice what they have said about him. So Wendell the bird can be a real trouble maker.
That's sooo funny! Wendell must be quite a character! My Amazon used to say, "Right NOW!" He sounded just like me - we had teenagers, what can I say?!

I have a Congo African Grey, your not the only one that goes to answer the phone to find out it was the bird. Also, if the phone does ring, he says hello before I even get to the phone. They are alot of company when you are buy yourself. Shirley
He He. Janey carries on her own phone conversation - it's really embarrassing by she sounds just like me! She always beeps at the end too!

A bigger better photo of Mac and Jane! He is closer so he looks the same size. He is a Timneh, and has maroon colored tail feathers. His feathers are darker and come to a V on his breast, his beak is tan. Janey is a Congo and his lighter feathers, a dark grey/black beak and the bright red tail feathers. She is actually about twice as heavy. Honery, very, very smart birds. They each talk and whistle and make tons of sounds.
I love them. They are so smart indeed. I was looking at parrots in a shop in orange county California and the grey one
was huge and I was looking at more colorful ones and he starts talking. Hey
You Let me Out of here. I thought it was
a prank until I found the culprit. I told the owner and she couldn't believe he was
talking because he hadn't said a peep to her. I just love your greys.
Hugs,
Linda aka bumblebee
