so I go to fix things and after filling up I check to see if pump is working and I find a huge hawk playing in the waterfall, I think

there's the culprit, then a squirrel comes around humm...
Finally, I see a gorgeous dragonfly flying in circles around and
around my garden going thru the sprinklers-beautiful copperish
color I could see as he sat on a daylily because his wings are wet. Its been really hot here 107 yesterday and its already 90 at 11:00AM PT. so natures coming in for a dip and a sip.

What a lovely story. I love to watch the birds in my yard help themselves to a bath in their water. The only critters I'd get rid of if I could is the squirrels. Love the birds, rabbits and chipmunks, but the squirrels are a no no.

Oh I probably agree, we don't have chipmunks but the squirrels cause lots of
havoc- eat all my apricots!

To busy didn't have the camera. I would have loved a macro closeup of the dragonfly- we don't get many if any that
I've seen because we are so dry-so that made it exiting.

Nature is so amazing! Your culprit wasn't the dragonfly, anyway, hee hee hee. I do wish you had been able to take a picture, but I know I never have a camera when super special things happen. I can see from your words, though. Enjoy your wonderful habitat. Hugs, Marji

This all sound so idyllic. Are you sure there weren't any raccoons hiding somewhere. They were usually the ones causing havoc with my pond. I stopped replacing the fish after a while. :)

Me too raccoons are so destructive. I had to get rid of my grape vines and fish. They destroy they come but this time it was just the hose out of place. I got a
SCARECROW -it hooks to the hose and when
the culprit comes around bang it shoots out a jet of water and scares them away.
I think the last one got it right between
the smacker because he never came back. I
turn it off now because sadly it scares all the other animals too.

It's interesting to watch what goes on in your yard. My dad was sitting outside and said the birds were complaining to him. He looked to find the bird bath was missing. He took the lid to a trash can to gave them water and several neighbors said their lawn decorations were missing also. They do like their water on a hot day.

I have a hummingbird feeder and if it is empty they hover by the sliding door and make a bunch of noise. One time with the door open one flew a round in the house as if to say "come on, I'm hungry"

They do get spoiled waiting for their food.

Thank goodness our garden trinkets are okay. Thats so interesting about the birds. I have little ones that come to lay
eggs every year. One year we had a whole
family of quails have little chicks in our backyard and we had to stop going back
their a bit to let them raise their chicks.
I had to stop the hummingbird feeders because of ants. Oh and they do come and
stair thru glass patio doors and are mesmerized by flowing water from the hose.
