Reading below - I see that your machine is a New Home. I think you've gotten good advice...... just want to add... I have an antique Singer. It is very small, black, only sews a straight stitch, but that baby sews and purrs like a kitten. I have always oiled it, and serviced it myself. Try that with the machines today! I have 4 machines besides that one and not one of them sews that sweet!
If your New Home is like that it should be just fine with the cleaning suggested here.....don't forget to oil it really well before sewing on it again.

Sorry to hear that - hopefully once you've cleaned as suggested it will be ok.
What a terrible shame - hope all is well with your machine. Good advice from the Cuties.
The advise you got from debleer sounds excellant. I wouldn't have known how to fix it. *4U
My old faithful is a New Home (aka Janome). Do you still have the manual? Mine is a Model 532, if yours is too, I can scan my manual if you need it.
I have a New Home, that is very different from the Janome. They changed every year of production. Perhaps you could post a picture and maybe one of us could share a manual. They are sturdy machines, so hopefully this one comes through unscathed!! Good luck!!
you got some good advice below as I could not have said it better so I will give all a flower.......hope it works for you.
What do you mean by "messed up?" Did liquid detergent get all over the outside of the machine, or did it get inside too? What kind of machine is it? The best thing to do is take it to a reputable repair person. Hopefully you have a good dealer who can clean it or recommend someone who can.
If this is not an option, take the machine out of the cabinet or case and set it in on a tray or over the kitchen sink. Remove as much of the detergent as possible with a damp cloth. Then clean the remainder out of the machine (NOT THE MOTOR OR NEAR THE LIGHT) using a spray bottle of water a small paint brush and a soft cloth; wipe around the light and outside of the motor case with a damp cloth. When it's all clean of detergent, dry all the parts with a blowdryer on warm. Then give the machine a really good oiling in all the areas with moving parts. The manual (if you have it) should show you where to oil it. If detergent got into the motor, DO NOT run the machine until it dries. This could be several weeks. When it's dry, and you run the machine the detergent will "burn off" with an odor. If the machine is a Singer, you can download the manual free from the Singer website.
Thanks! It's a NewHome. Some of the print has come off and it has soap in the bobbin area too :( I wiped off as much as I could but I will follow your directions on further cleaning tomorrow *2U
