Should I sew the front of a doona cover to the backing or just seam them together?

Here are some instructions for a cover.

sorry, more information.... I made a patchwork front for a doona cover. The plan is to have two backings which the doona will go inbetween. Should I stitch the patchwork to the first backing??? ta, Lyn. xx
