It would take so much time and paper and ink. I do have my designs fairly well-categorized on the computer, though, and back up occasionally.
Mine are all on the computer. Right now I hardly have time to download the daily freebies. Would love to have a catalog but it will just have to wait.
mine all on the computer in catagories i print the one i am about to test stitch and make notes on the print out what i put it on and any changes then into the folder........i also burn hard copies every few months in case of disasters,,,,,,,,soozie
No printed catalogue but I keep manilla folders of the actual stitchouts allordered by types of designs and numbered.
Started of doing that but it was so time and space consuming. Nowadays I sort them on the computer and spend the time to make backups.
All the designs that I buy I have in binders. The rest of them no. Just on my computer.
Nope, I don't keep a binder. I can do a search function in my designs folder which is on my computer and there everything is in a nice neat listing. You do have to give names that make sense and that you will recall a key word when you first save your design for this to work.
WOW, my computer catalog is "Out of Order". Everything needs some kind of organizing...FIESTA ANYHOW ;D *2U
I have to admit that I do print out a lot of the designs. I don't do half as much as I use to. I really like the hard copies to browse through. On the alphabets I only print out one letter especially if they are all similar. It's like reading the actural book vs reading using on-line versions!
No, no and another no. Spend toooo much time on the computer as it is.
When I first started, I was told to print out all the designs and color sheets, then reality set in....I had 2 binders full before 2 months was up. Expensive to say the least and collecting toooo fast to keep up.... and now I just print out my orders from EmbLib.
OMG it would take a forest and a ink well to do mine.
Not me....although I do have a file with tutorials and various techniques, which I refer to a lot. Sarah.
I print a preview of design I plan to embroider, then right comment on it after words whether it is worth embroidering again. If I want to do it again later I know it works out perfect. Often found design works perfect till the second last step.Lots of time wasted then.
Thanks. I remember having some freebies when I first started that embroidered horrible...I deleted them and continue too ;D *2U
Maybe 1% because I tried this when I started embroidery but give it up. I ask my customer what they are searching and then I give them a variety of designs ( p.e. fairies, dragons, roses...).
Otherwise I had to buy a new shelf for all the ring binders ;o)
Greetings, Bettina
Not me!!! That's what I use my software Organiser for.
I do print out instructions for projects if it looks like I'm going to lose my way.. you know, more than two instructions.... :}
I could never keep up with the printing, let alone the filing afterwards. wow!! all those trees and all that printer ink!!!
However, if people feel more comfortable with hard copies then let them be - this craft is for fun and enjoyment. There aren't any rules because we all make our own rules and no-one else wants to follow them.
AlmaG.
None - but I have the designs that I have sewn out in a couple of binders. My software shows me a picture & colours etc of each design ,so no need to print them out.Backup my embroidery designs every month on external hard drive after losing all of them earlier this year.Still sorting that mess out ,some 7 mths later
None, I wouldnt have enough space to put all the hard copies!
I'm with that - and all the money for the notebooks, paper and ink. No way - not to mention all the TIME it would take that you could be stitching.
I do have carbonite back up for the computer though. Lost my hard drive once and that was enough trauma.
Try this again.... typed an answer and it got lost in cyber space.... because it is not here.
Until last year 100% of my designs were in two very thick albums..... then I found Cuties and other freebie sites, in November -- and now I'm in over my head!
I have stacks of printed designs, but not organized.
I do however have all my designs saved on CD's. I like the albums because they are easier to hand to someone interested in seeing what I have.

Hi Monika, I don't have any designs printed out. Love and blessings Chris
I only keep photos of designs I have sttiched out as a catalogue. The rest are stored on my thumbdrives. Having sewwhat Iconz I can see all my designs as pics, and so just use the laptop, easier for searching rather than going through paper. WHAT about the trees. Would need too many cut down to print them all out
I have SW Iconz too but I need a way to carry them when I am at boring meetings...I have to come up with something...thinking ;D *2U
I organized many of mine about 2 years ago. I am up to 15 4 1/2 inch binders and I still have a long way to go. They are by categories and very easy to find exactly what I want. I am probably 75% now. These design binders have turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done for my embroidery hobby.
I have a tip for printing the photos and thread color charts. For a long time now I copy the photo and paste it into a word document. I resize the photo to be very small. Then I copy the thread color list and paste it just under the photo. I am able to put several on each page that way. This method cuts down a lot on color printing costs but I still have a small jpg of the design for reference. The easiest to do are those from EmbLibrary but others can be done that way too.

None, Monica. Can't afford the ink, or the storage space on my shelves. Really, I can't see the need for printing out everything, either. It's all organized on my computer, I can find whatever I want. If by some off chance somebody wants me to do a design, and it did happen ONCE, hee hee hee, I had to come on Cute anyway, because she wanted a teddy bear and I don't download teddy bears. If you're thinking of letting someone choose a design, I think several binders would be daunting to a buyer (or gift-getter). I would ask what design, like boat, car, horse, and just show the ones I know would come out good. Good luck, don't kill more trees than you have to, hee hee hee, Hugs, Marji
Thanks Marji...somehow, someway, I have to get some control of this thing, LOL ;D *2U
I keep my designs organized by type and designer, and then a PDF file of the original design so I can tell what it was supposed to look like rather than what my machine shows me. But I see no reason to keep a catalog. It would be slower to look through than my computer.
Do you have yours printed out?
OK, In my head only are the print outs. I had the idea years ago but it's still in my head...that counts as a start, LOL ;D *2U
No but my friend the closet Cutie has many of hers in a printed catalogue
Not me. I have WAY too many designs to do that! I have them in folders by site and I have Embird Iconizer and Ann the Gran Catalog Express (which is just like Buzz Tools). I find that it works well for me. I print out the templates, photos, etc. of the ones I am stitching only.
I hear you :) I could see myself with an elegant book with my print out in them....dreaming away ;D *2U

Not I! Can't afford all that ink, though it would come in handy at times, lol! Thats why I need another card for my reader so I can open the design when I'm stiching. All I see is an grey area thats being stitched and brother changes the colors so when I have something maple it becomes silver. I actually write my colors down now before I go stitch them out.
I usally put my printer on less ink but I don't know how many cartridge I would need for catalog ;D *2U
I wish....but the answer is none. Can't see past the expense of the cost of printer ink to even think about staring one.
Maybe 3 cartridges will be enough...I plan to try it as soon as I can get all my designs in one location ;D *2U
I have a couple of folder from when I started but it was too much to keep up. Not to mention the printer ink. Now they are on my computer and on DVD's...Hugs Sally
Thanks Sally! I remember we had to keep a catalog of cliparts when I worked in a copying office. It didn't take too much ink because the graphic was small so that many could fit on one page ;D *2U
I have a 4 inch binder that is full that has a printed portfolio in it from 2 years ago and the pics are 5 across & 5 down on each page so that tells you how many thousands there are and that is when I stopped 2 years ago, 2 years into embroidering.......you know I have probably doubled that, especially now that I am digitizing.....can't afford the ink to print it all.......LOL
Since I don't have a problem collecting designs and I can stop anytime I want to (LOL) I can go a whole week without dl a single design (fingers crossed) ROFL...About how many ink cartridges would you say you used or do you remember? ;D *2U
You know.....I don't have a clue....can't remember yesterday, let alone 2 years ago....LOL!!!! The intent was to have the album at my shows so people could pick out designs....NOT..let them come to the house!!!!
I've been collecting designs for 15 years so to do this would be impossible I have 1000's upon 1000's of designs...a little ashamed to say maybe hundreds of thousands of designs. Of course a lot of them are inferior freebies that I need to get rid of...but anyway. To answer your question I only print out things like ITH ones that have step by step instructions that I like to follow "Old School" printed on paper! So I guess my percentage would be maybe 1%?
Muffy :)
I have two books of instructions/projects. One for sewing and the other for embroidery. I now need another book...Maybe I will try cataloging it pdf first...decisions, decisions, decisions ;D *2U
I started too ......... but never finished !!!
:o)
I started to but ran out of ink. So my DH said it would be nice not to do that. LOL I still print sometimes. So I would say about 10%.
What about you??
DeVon
OK DeVon, I started in my head years ago and the way it looks, it's still in my head, ROFL...hey but you gotta start somewhere ;D *2U
