I don't know this book, so I can't comment on it, as the others have said, look in the library and see if it's helpful to you before you purchase it.

Where are you in your digitizing journey? Digitizing is a rewarding pastime, but it is not necessarily simple. There are basics that must be learned, no matter which program you are using, and unless you have these under control, you won't get good results. You must learn about the push/pull of the stitches, pathing, whether to use jumps or traveling stitches, which stitches work best to bring out the design, etc. There is a 'physics' of how machine stitches and fabric interact, and you really have to have a handle on that before you can be really good at digitizing. Then, you have to learn to use the digitizing software you have, how to make stitches, cutouts, whatever. That is specific to your software, and if you purchase software from a dealer, make sure you get free lessons. If you're going for something like Embird, there are plenty of on-line lessons, but I think those cost something. Just keep in mind, you can run software like a pro, but unless you have the physics of thread on fabric mastered, you still won't be a good digitizer, that's not software-related, it's basic to digitizing. Hope this helps some, hugs, Marji

Can I make a suggestion? Check it out from the local library and look at it. Then you will know whether it is worth YOUR money and time. Everyone is at a different level. Therefore some people will be helped and others won't. I checked it out from my library and found it to not be all that helpful for me. But it got good reviews, so it is a matter of personal taste.

I paid a lot of money for a similar book that I thought would be helpful in learning to digitize. Big mistake! I wasted my money.

Probably your best investment would be classes or a book on the specific digitizing program you are using or plan to use. The very general ones aren't going to help you learn to use the program. They are all very different. Pick one, learn and study it and you will be way ahead.

Good luck in your digitizing endeavors.

Its NOT a beginners book at all. I bought this book some time back and was disappointed as I thought it was going to teach me HOW to digitize. Its more of a history of digitizing and how to do certain steps, with expense programs you may not have. I would suggest you check it out of your local library and read through it before buying it. If I had I would not have purchased it as it was NOT what I was looking for. The CD it comes with has a few free designs, web links to classes you pay for, and clubs you pay to join. You can find this stuff on-line without purchasing the book.

I would suggest you do a search through your local library on the subject, check out a few books, read through them, and when you find what you really are looking for, purchase that book instead. That way you have the reference you really are looking for at hand.
Good Luck!!

Is this John Deers book? I have it, I liked it, but to be honest it was supplementary to already being able to digitise. I really liked meeting him though, he is a very interesting man, and very helpful.
